| Apex Techie Wannabe | GOOD question, i dont have the answer to...yet. i contacted hydor in efforts to get my hands on a hydor L40 pump, they got back to me saying that the L40 was being replaced by a L35II and they sent me two on the house, i will contact them and see if they can help me with the specs, but in the mean time you can watch the project take life in the NEW PROJECTS section probly late next week. | |

| Not bad deal, i could use two hydor pumps on the house. I've talked to the guys at hydor multiple times, they've replaced my pump twice free of charge, no questions asked, gotta love their CS but it says something about their pumps, gotta replace em now and then. once every about 6 months, but after my chiller last year i had it submerged in antifreeze alcohol mix and i don't think that helped any... | Apex Techie Wannabe | so you hydor pumps needed to be replaced after 6 months, wow, thats a short life for a pump, i have a Eheim 1260 i have been using on my personel rig for 2 years, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, my pc never gets turned off unless mods are taking place or im on vacation. the pump is going as strong as it was the day i bought it, it was 4 times the price of a hydor L35 though. | |

Eheim makes a good pump, I know. But I got the hydor on a trade, and the seal snapped on me so they replaced it free of charge. Then after it was submerged in antifreeze and rubbing alcohol, the cord seal was dry rotted, so the water leaked out of it. They again replaced it free of charge, that was last november, since then it's run 24/7 and no issues. I want to get the L45, or two, but haven't got any money...

| Apex Techie Wannabe | yeah, submerging the pump, in the cooling solution will probly drastically change the lifespan of the pump, i dont really like the idea of submerging the pumps, what if the liquid corroded thru the wires, you could have a little light show! | |

Well one thing the submerging does, improves flow. with no resistance on one end the pump can push effectily at its best. Since hydor's pumps are made to be submerged, i wouldn't see any issues. Actually they would run fine submerged, just dont un-submerge them... That would be a pimp, making a submerged pump external WC solution. With windows and maybe even lights on the pump..... w00t great idea, now to put it into reality.

| Apex Techie Wannabe | your right that would look like a pimp setup, but one problem is when a pump is submerged it will heat up the water alot more than if you run the pump inline. pumps cause friction, friction causes heat, if you run the pump inline little to no heat dissapates into the water, when submerged the heat had nowhere to go but into your water. | |
