| Apex Techie Wannabe | I hope I'm posting this in the right forum.. Anyway, I'm wanting to build an NES-PC. I've found some articles on it, but those are from five years ago and don't exactly have up to date equipment. I plan on making this a solid-state PC- no hard drive, no cd rom. All data will reside on a couple USB drives. So really, all I need is a mobo, ram, power supply, and additional USB ports. I plan to use this for soley running emulators (original, I know). So I need a board that should be able to run NES/SNES/Genesis emulators fullscreen with no slowdown. Anyone have any experience with the Mini and Nano itx boards? I'm staying away from Pico since I don't need it that small. I'm also looking at using EPIA, since they seem to be more widely associated with them. That's where I'm stuck... I don't know whether to go mini or nano.. both will fit in the case but I want the power supply to fit too. Oh, and fan. but that shouldn't be a problem. [I had links to EPIA mobos but I can't post them till after seven posts. The ones I was looking at were the NX, N, and LT] I also need to run an OS on it that can run the emus and support control pads, but not over-exert the board. Lastly, do I need a riser? I was planning on getting the board and then seeing how I could fit it into the NES' existing screw holes, if possible. I also couldn't find any risers for nano-itx, only mini-atx So, just looking for some general help with this project. Thanks! | |

| Welcome to pcApex! I bookmarked a link a few months ago on nes pc. Looks like he used an epia 5000. I would probably go with a epia 10000. But if you want something with more power, itx has come a long way. You can get something close to a powerful desktop all in that small nes box. 05 Scion xA - NES PC - MP3Car.com ![]() While I think about what you can use to build it and gather links, Look thru that thread. Oh and, what's your budget? | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I think I like the Nano-itx board (VIA EPIA NX15000G/VIA EPIA NX12000EG) since all of the I/O ports must be attached manually to the pins instead of being part of the back plate. This way I can move all the connections around to match the holes in the back/side of the NES budget? ehhh. I dunno... we'll say $500? | |
