| Apex Techie Wannabe | I was jus thinking about changing the LED in my mouse, it only has 2 red ones on the bottom by the 2 optical sensors. I would have done it already except someone mentioned to me that it might need a 'high intensity led' and that the optical lense might somehow need the LED to be red in order to work properly. anyways, anyone have any tips on what i should know about this and what i would need? i want to change it to green or blue. thanks =D | |

| logitech mice can accept any color as proved by the many modders out there. common questions are: the screws are probably under the teflon tape pads. yes you might have to add a second LED per sensor if it is not bright enough. you should simply splice it and its resistor to the 5 volt in (if its cordless which i dont think that model is it would be a bigger problem) it should work just as good as with red. red is just cheaper at the moment. it is the cheapest led color currently. you probably wont notice untill it falls of the desk and you are blinded by blue. but you friends will be in awe of your mastery. wear a grounding strap. yeah go do it. it only takes less than an hour depending on mouse. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Thanks for you help, i'll give it a shot. I already took it all apart and put it back together jus to see how to get at the LED's in there so that's no problem. Since i could pretty much use any led, is there any LED you would recommend? like super brights or something? Adding a second LED to the existing ones wouldn't be an option in this mouse, i don't think. They have these little holders that hold them in place. like you have to unclip it from the PCB and bend it up(so the LED and holder are straight up), and there's a little clip holding it on the LED. Then u can jus slide it off. | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | hmmm...... well i bought my LED's, they are "Super bright 5mm Blue LED, 2000Mcd@20mA, 3.6V typical" ..and it says it needs a DC current limitting resister....now up til now i've assumed that all leds need about 300 ohm res, so will that limiting resistor already be in there? and i have a grounding strap but i've never really used it, what are some examples of things I can ground myself to. I'd prolly do the work at my desk in my room. thanks for all the help with my noobish questions ![]() | |
