Default Modding a 5.25" VFD display to fit in a 3.5" slot.

Here is the display in question.
Here is the case in question.

Now... if you look at the two links, you'll see a Silverstone (SST-FP54-S) VFD Display (even though I will be buying the Black (SST-FP54-B)). A rather simple display with great features... with it's software it can display practically anything. I wuv it. However... my 5.25" bays will be full and I'll already have a Fan Controller/Temp Monitor sitting in the 5.25"s so I won't need another for the 3.5". If you notice the display... the screen is not much bigger than a 3.5" slot (maybe slightly taller) and the interior of the peripheral is very bare.

Now if you look at the case, you will see a Cooler Master Ammo. Looking closer at the 3.5" slot, you'll see there is a good amount of room above and below it. In fact, I believe you're looking at something that could be the height of a 5.25" slot if you wanted to. This is where I want the display to be.

So, my idea is this... remove the 3.5" cage from the case, cut the slot tall enough for the Silverstone panel, take the panel, cut out almost all of the casing leaving just enough to fit in the slot I cut for it and secure it with Silicon. Also, I plan on changing the screen filter from red to blue. Doable? I am an inexperienced modder, but I think this is very possible and if I get it done right, I think it could make for a very sweet mod. What do you all think? Should I try it?

If you look at this picture of your case...(which I'm sure you done already)

Theres lots of room for a 5.25 drive there, just use the lower 3.5's for your hardrives...
Go for it!

IMO, a more interesting mod entails mounting the VFD somewhere a drive bay doesn't already exist-- i. e. side panel or front bezel-- then you lose no case capacity and you can do some interesting "blending" of the VFD's look with the case.

Which could be easily done, since that 5.25 enclosure is basically empty........no need for that big box for the display

How about squeeze it in to a keyboard, would take some cabling, but would be cool.
