Default Quick fix for a dead video card cooler.

Now Fred_G's mods are well, they usually work, but they aint pretty, but this one I am kinda proud of, probably been done before. My ATI 9800XT VGA Silencer fan died on a folder, I found a way to fix it for cheap, and got some sweet temps off of it.

And I got some picts. The first is the victem and the stuff I fixed it with.

80mm fan, JB Quick weld, stuff to mix the JB.

I took the plastic stuff and old fan off the cooler, then just JB welded an 80mm fan on it. Pretty self explanatory. My Gpu temps (folding, well, it is a borg are 36C for the GPU.) Noise is about the same.

Pros: Cheap fix for a dead video card cooler. Takes less than an hour.

Cons: Ghetto. Blocks another PCI slot on my NF7 board. It is a borg, so not a problem for me.

Nice fix. It appears that you should be getting some good RPMs. Nice job.

Update for my ugly mod. Everest is reporting this: CPU 45 GPU 36. It is around 72F in my tin can. The temps are on a folding rig, that is all it does unless this computer takes a dive.

And using screws would have been so much easier. I did not think of that!

Was the other way for me. VGA Silencer lives, card dies. Wish it was the other way around for a quick fix!

Not pretty, but it got the job done!

I think I would have tried removing the stock fan, and found a way to mount a fan on the outside of the opening where the original fan sat, then the hot air would go out the back of the PC like the way it was designed too.

If that shroud was left in place, you wouldn't needed that high (CFM wise) of a fan to cool it effeciently..but like you said, it's good enough for a Borg!

$Solids$ Replacing the cooler's fan was my first idea, but I did not have one that would fit, and I wanted that computer back up and folding ASAP. I was pretty impressed with the temps I got. Even though it is now just a borg, that is my backup gaming rig if this one goes down for some reason. The old 9800XT is old, but still a decent card.

As far as the looks of it, well, there is a reason I avoid cases with windows... But I am learning! One of these days I will do some kind of mod that works, and looks good.

For now I am keeping it T2. That is my backup rig! It only folds now, but if this system takes a dive, I can still play games on it.

But in the next month or so, I am going to upgrade my current video card (X850), and make my backup rig out of my ASRock board, so I might trade you the 9800 for a few cards for borgs.
