| I am in the middle of troubleshooting and looking for info online but maybe one of you guys know the answer to my little problem. Ever since I installed a new power supply last week, my floppy drive no longer works. The indicator light stays on but I cannot access anything on the floppy. I think this is also causing a problem with my internal Zip drive as well but not certain. The Iomega drivers are all loaded and the zip drive shows up as a removable drive in Windows Explorer but when I try to access it or write anything to it, I get a message something like: Error: another device on your machine is not working properly. Then it gives the retry or cancel options. Mormally I would just say fuggit but I need some drivers that are on one of my floppies for an old card. Is the floppy just fried or is there another solution than getting a new (or used) floppy drive? Last edited by godfoot; 24-September-03 at 02:12 AM.. | ||

| Well, the first thing I checked was the floppy IDE cable (which I never unplugged to begin with but you never know sometimes) and it is plugged in correctly. The molex will only fit in one way so that is not the problem either. Thanks for the quick responses though. | ||

| I got the floppy working by unplugging it on both ends and plugging it back in (apparently I DID have the floppy end backwards). I feel like such a n00b... and I even checked it before unplugging it..... I'm slipping. Regardless, my Zip drive still will not work and I can't for the life of me figure that one out. Plus, I went to hook up my external USB CD burner only to find that my PCI Universal Serial Bus is remarked in the device manager and my Windows disk apparently does not have the correct drivers/patch to get that going so I am stuck for burning until I get that figured out as well. I tried looking on the motherboard disk (after having tried reinstalling the drivers from the USB 2.0 PCI card) but that did not help either. | ||

| *bump* EDIT: Ok, here is what I have tried so far and the problems still aggrevating the hell out of me. I have flashed the BIOS with the latest upgrade, installed new mobo drivers, installed drivers for USB 2.0 card (many times over), installed several versions of USB and USB 2 drivers and other combinations of drivers from various sources that I thought MIGHT work, switched PCI slots a couple of times, manually changed IRQs to avoid conflicts (that was solved by using a different video card), and probably a few other things that I can't think of at the moment yet I STILL have remarks in the Device Manager (Win 98SE). In the USB section of Device manager my rig reads like this approximately: NEC USB Enhanced Universal Host Controller (mini port) NEC USB Universal Host Controller NEC USB Universal Host Controller USB 2.0 Root Hub USB Root Hub remarked USB Root Hub remarked VIA 3038 somethingorother remarked VIA 3038 somethingorother remarked No matter what I have tried I cannot get the USB 2.0 card to work which pretty much screws me since my CD burner is USB and for some reason is not recognized by the onboard USB 1.1 ports either. I haven't even begun to troubleshoot the ZIP drive yet but it is the only device on the secondary IDE channel and the jumper is set to master and is still not recognized even after re-installing Iomega's latest drivers. Thanks for any help that can possibly be provided. | ||

| Well at one point I had 98SE running more stable than any of my other installations (after Win 3.11, of course), but that was a slightly different configuration and way before this install of it. I will be getting XP Pro but not until I get another HDD. I plan to start putting money aside starting this coming payday for a new mobo and processor so that will alleviate my need for the USB card anyway but damnit I NEED my burner. As for what the BIOS sees... what do you mean by that? The secondary master is set to FLOPTICAL which is what I have always used for the zip drive in the past. | ||
