Default The Great RAM debate. Speed, Brand, etc!

So, Im probably gonna get a new CPU (2500+ yeehaw) and Im gonna want a gig of RAM to match it.

So...

According to NewEgg right now.

We Got Geil (several variaties) from $199 to $203

We Got About a gillion variaties of Corsair XMS

We Got some Kingston HyperX

We Got Mushkin Level I and II for some good money...

Most of these are CAS 2.0 which is good...

Once you get to the 3200 level, what difference does brand mean, are heatsinks a requirement?

Is Corsair just the best? I always heard good things...

Thei Geil comes onto the sceen with its Golden Dragon stuff...

Then Planetside came with Kingston Coupons for their HyperX stuff (Guarunteed 2-2-2 speeds)

My MOBO supports Dual Channel DDR and I need a gig...

What is the pimply recommendation?

Hmmm?

Heatspreaders are not necessary, period! They can look really pimp ....... but they are pointless and jack up the price.

I allways thought geil was basically cheaper XMS. Same stuff but not corsair, cheaper. Also i heard it had better bandwidth. BUT i dont use DDR and therefore dont bother knowing too much about it, so yeah.

My dfriend just got a gig of XMS 3200... its REALLY fast ****. Blows the crap outta my samsung PC800 RAMBUS.

If I need it I would...I have my 3200 runnin at 200 and 400 fsb proc..this is also in dual channel..the only thing I have heard with this ram is that it sometimes is hit and miss with nforce boards but with intel it does fine...Ihad ti tweak it a little to get it right but once it was set it has performed well.

Ok, I'd hate to buy something that is "hit and miss" with my board chipset.

If Im running an nforce board, what is best.

Darn RAM, so darn confusing.
