| why is it I have hard drives months old that corrupt data and eat their own filetables and yet I have other hard drives 10 maybe 15 years old that run like a swiss watch? my 250 just ate itself and once again I have lost ALL data on that said HDD. My 160 did the same thing. And yet in the same PC I have a 10gb manufactured in Jan. 1998 that runs flawlessly and the frame buffer memory is slow old ass EDO ram. I could catapult a 340mb Maxtor at 300mph into a brick wall and it will still work, and yet if I breathe on a new HDD the wrong way it corrupts all my data. thank god I arrayed all this **** on 8 HDD's so I didn't lose TOO much, but I lost all the anime my girlfriend gave me. wtf? | ||

| That's why I have my WD 180's running in a RADI1... so if one of 'em does eat it, I can still recover from the other one. But the circumstances of all your drive failures are weird... I've run nothing but WD drives and have never had problems. I feel for ya man. | ||

| Mirror arrays are godsends, but if this is the second drive to crap out on you then I'd start examining every component that your 160 had to work with that your 250 ended working with too. CPU, RAM, Mobo, PSU, and cables are good canidates for examination. | ||

| I've never had a hard drive fail on me though I have had a couple of small data corruption issues on my older Western Digital. On the other hand its well over 7 or 8 years and still running strong. I've also got a Quantum Bigfoot that will still run even after something like 10 years. | ||

Word, thats for keeping my honest... I knew it was one of the big guys that swallowed them up. Yeah, I was pretty miffed when Seagate bought Maxtor as I viewed Maxtor HDD's as sup par. But, now that I look at it was a pretty good move as it increased their market share as well as ability to produce. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
