Toshiba Tecra S1+SDR6012 problems

i have a toshiba tecra S1 laptop that i had since 2003, it had a standard CD/DVD drive. at about late 2004 i bought a DVD+/-R/RW drive, model number SD-R6012. but the drive doesnt work in my computer. i checked for any drivers, and cant find any. this drive is listed compatable for my computer, and i know the drive isnt broken, i used this drive in a satallite once before. plz help

Check that your old drive doesn't have a special spacer connector on it which you need to put on your new drive to allow it to connect to the laptop. I had problems a few months ago when I bought a new hard disk for my laptop. I couldn't believe that it wasn't being detected in Windows, until I realised that the old one had a special connector on it that I had to put on the new one.

let me reclarify. the drive goes in, the drive gets power, the drive and open/close, a disk spins when i put one in there, but the drive just doesnt show up in my computer up in the device manager.

Does your BIOS detect the drive? Try going into your BIOS and see if it shows up in there.

yup snowman hit it... if bios doesnt see the drive then windows will not see the drive

do'h why didnt i think of that before....well the BIOS doesnt show the drive, so i guess im screwed...lol. guess this drive is going into my car PC project...unless if the drive is accually broken or something...i hope not!

Look for a BIOS firmware update on Toshibas website.
