| I need some help from the printer Gurus! At work we have an Agfa Grand Sherpa large format printer. It is actually mate by Mutah(sp). We need bigger ink containers. But they have chips on them, so when you put a larger full one in, the chip tells the printer it is empty. I need to find a way to bypass the ink sensors on the printer, or a way to 'program' the chip on the ink cartridge(sp). We need more ink volume because this is going to be set up to do large volume banner production. Thanks for your time! E | ||

| Only way I know of is by getting new chips (after market "smart chips"). I never worked with a Grand Sherpa as we had Epson large format color proofers so I can't give you names or model numbers unfortunately. I would try going to some pre-press or printing forums (such as at bigpicture.net, prepressforums.com, etc) and looking around in there or sign up and ask your question there. | ||

| There may be large external cartridges available. I know they are available for the Xante' production type inkjet. As Godfoot said, check out some of teh ink braethers forums. http://www.wide-format-printers.org/ http://americanprinter.com/ | ||

| Thanks for the info! We got it fixed today. You press the Menu UP button, then F1, then Menue Down while the printer is booting. Enter a code, 0963 I think, then select Pig 6CM, enter, then restart the machine. Now we can use ink without chips on them. Agfa customer servis is terrible. Mutah, who actually made the printer has excellent people working for them! E | ||

Unfortunately, I don't have the answer to that one.... However, I do have my own problem with a Agfa Grand Sherpa 65.... Although I have emptied the waste ink tank and gone through the steps on the main menu board to tell the printer that it is empty, I can't get rid of the error and the printer is basically locked up with a message on the screen telling me that my waste ink tank is full. Have you run into this before? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Holy thread revival! That chapter of my life is over with. I don't mess with them big printers any more. We ran our waste line to a bucket. It did not have a full sensor. You might want to make sure the waste line is not clogged, and if it is not, I would look into a better waste drain setup. You might need to flash the printers BIOS/Firmware to do it. I miss the days of making banners and such. Lots of fun. Just not enough cash for me. E | ||
