| I got home at around 2:45pm after a 60mile bike ride and found that my replacement water cooling parts were here. I eagerly fitted them (sans water) and cut tubes to size and then removed the water cooling gear from my pc. I then proceded to test the water cooling gear for leaks and found non. So then I moved it back into my case and decided to run it again for leaks without my pc on. It leaked and I couldent seam to stop the leaks so I removed the water cooling gear dispirited and told myself I would try it again when less tired. I carefully made sure everything in my pc was dry and proceeded to rebuild my pc. I then found that my pc was unable to boot, although it had no beep code nothing apeared on the screen. I then suspected my graphics card had died (as as far as I know it was the only component that ever came into contact with a drop of water. So I thought, no big deal I will just get a slightly faster new one as it's so old. I replaced my card with a PCi graphics card I knew worked and the pc would still not work. I removed my memory and the pc wouldn't give a beep code. this was my first inkeling this was a big problem. I then reset the bios and removed all unescasery devices. Still no boot. I tried each stick of memory seperatly. Still nothing. At the moment Im posting on a 400mhz p2 running damm small linux with a keyboard that gave me RSI as it won't play with my nice usb keyboard or mouse, so i'm using a serial mouse. I have a lan in a few days I guess I will be just running the game servers not playing as I don't have enough money to fix my pc. I only wanted to try something new, I must have done something wrong. I guess thats what you get if you try and teach yourself something from internet guides instead of learning from someone who can point out the obvious. I also got world of warcrarft through the post today which I was looking forward to playing (before you ask about the sub I was only planing on playing for a month to the end of the summer). I would be angery but I feel too crap. I'm posting this here becuase my feinds are too emotionaly distant or on holiday or have rejected me for various reasons and I want to express my distaste for life in genral at this moment in time. | ||

unfortuantly only the two in there belong to me and one of them is the game server (not available for genral usage) and the other is the pc thats not working. In other news I think the backlight on my monitor is begining to fail aswell I guess I'm about the become very familier with damm small linux, RSI and chunky 800x600 CRT's. Fun. All my fault though so I guess I deserve it. If you do try WC I wouldn't advise starting with your main rig.. and I would advise getting someone in the first time to help. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| You may be blaming the watercooling...but I have the strange feeling that it was something else... I am curiuos if you used regular tap water or did you use the proper distilled water, or something non conductive? How about when you were handling the hardware, are you sure you grounded yourself properly first? I have zapped at leat one motherboard from that. Could you have possibly nicked a trace on the board with a screwdriver, or somehow damaged a cap or other component? I doubt one drop of water on the card could have caused the motherboard to die, but it is possible..I am just trying to do an autopsy here. None of that will help get it running again though, I am sorry to hear about your loss... Did you at least try resetting the cmos, and make sure all the jumpers are in the correct position? | ||

| I used a dysiled water anti frezee mix. As for grounding I have never encountered problems before and make sure that I touch the pc case before working on the pc. (I may buy an anti static wrist strap soon though) I have reset the cmos twice to no avail, the jumpers havent been moved apart from the cmos jumper which is back in the correct position. Cap damage is posible as I did hit one quite hard when taking my cpu cooler off but it has no visual indication of damage and it's still firmly attached to the PCB. I'm going to wait til morning before starting to try the pc's components in other pc's to see if they function corectly. I suspect the motherboard is the problem, which will be a shame as I doubt I can easily get hold of a nf7. as for my monitor backlight, that was just the bios of this p2 board been funkey. It's fine inside Xserver. | ||

| I think the most simple answer for the why is that you missed a drop (very understandable...) that instantly killed it, and it promptly evaporated (the drop)... It sounds like you tried everything you did to try and save the mobo to no avail...I'd say cut your losses, since trying out components in a killed mobo may harm components....but I'm a n00b compared to you, so don't listen to me... | ||
