Default HDD Prob

Hey guys, my younger bro's pc is freezing during Call of Duty 2, and during sims 2 while loading. I figure it might be the HD since that while loading in sims 2, the HD would spin up then down and will continuasly do it. So im thinking it might be failing. What do you guys think?

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 40 Gbytes ATA

Model: ST340014A

Does it only do it with those 2 games? Try scandisk and defrag and then try the games again.

If you can, I would also back up your drive, unless you don't have problems with a reinstall.

Could possible be a memory problem. Sounds like a HDD issue though. Is the drive almost full?

I agree with WDoG, backup ALL of your important data onto another drive or two, then run Memtest off of a bootable disk.

What does the post BIOS say? Usually (at least in my cases) if the drive supports SMART and is failing... the SMART feature will warn you to backup the drive and replace it.

On top of scandisk, run some Check Disk (Start > Run > chkdsk) to see if it picks up any errors. You can also scan the event logs (Right-click My Computer > Manage > Event Logs) and see if your system is logging any HDD errors.

In Speedfan, you can use the SMART feature and see how it critiques the health of your hdd.

there is your issue.

Its the power supply... i bet it can not handle the draw from the over clock....

Humor me... take off the overclock.. i bet it runs stable...

if you want to overclock... get a bigger psu
