Default PDA Operating Systems

I'm looking to purchase a PDA, preferably the iPaq hx2790. I know that it has Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. Some of the software that I'm looking to purchase says that it requires Pocket PC 2002 or better. Which operating systems does this include? This should work on the Windows Mobile 5.0 OS right? Since they are both made my Microsoft, right?

This is the software right here: http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/ec...ACHE_ID=246259

Also, I plan to have alot of music on my PDA, do you guys know how the quality of the play is on the iPAQs? Is it far from the iPod or iRiver? Thanks guys

I believe the audio chipset has an equalizer on there so your next step would be getting some descent headponhes for it.

As far as I know windows mobile 05 is backwards compatible with everything so I don't see you having much issue there.

For mp3 playback you'll need an application like mort player, it's very good and lets you turn off the screen and still have music playing, it also has equalizer settings - WMP doesn't have either feature.

Don't forget you'll need a storage card of some sort.

for a while i used an ipaq with a CF card as an mp3 player untill i got an ipod. i used pocketmusic from pocket mind and it worked very well. sound quailty is like any other mp3 player, pretty good. of course it was too slow for video, took forever to load pics, and was huge, but the pocket PC interface with touchscreen is far better than the ipod or anyother mp3 player because of the sheer information and usability of the interface. if they made an affordable flash card with the capacity of my ipod i'd chuck the ipod for a PDA any day.
if you have the cash you also might want to check out a UMPC.

I'll vouch on pocketmusic. it's nice and has great management for your mp3's.
