Default Annoying MX500 problem

Hello, I've been having a really lame problem with my MX500 for some time now. First off, here's my specs.

Asus A7N8X-Deluxe
AMD 2800+ Barton
Corsair PC3200 1gb
some 420watt psu
a variety of harddrives (XP is installed on a 72gb raptor)
ATI9800 pro & SB Audigy 2 zs

Ok....so I'll be using my mouse like normal and all of a sudden my mouse will just freeze. Right after it freezes I hear that annoying windows sound notifying me that a hardware device has been unplugged. I then immediately hear the sound windows makes when some hardware gets plugged in, and after that the mouse begins to work again. It's an extremely frustrating problem ESPECIALLY IN GAMES. I have been living with it for some time due to the fact that don't play too many games during the school year, but I want to get it fixed asap. I have tried plugging it in to every different USB port I have with no luck. I have tried installing mouseware from logitech and uninstalling it. I have the latest nForce drives for my mobo, and my XP is fully updated. I don't freaking get it!!!!! This is so lame...I don't want to have to spend another $50 on a mouse =( Please help!

p.s. - If you don't understand my problem let me know and I can use fraps to illustrate it (it happens every time I use my computer...including many times during the making of this post)

Check the PS/2 connecter in the back of the computer and check the USB connecter and wire itself.

First off, this is not a ps/2 mouse nor am I using a ps/2 adapter. Second, what am I supposed to check for when you say "check the USB connecter". Of course I double and triple checked that the wire was fine and damage free, and the usb connecter itself looks exactly the same as any other usb adapter. No offence but I am kind of looking for solid advice from someone who has heard of or experienced this odd problem before, not generic advice any techy would give to a computer illiterate person. I appreciate the attempt though

Easy dude - peeps are trying to help

My gut feeling is that it's probably the mouse itself (i.e. loose connecion or non-visible wire damage) I know that it's not what you are wanting to hear - but that's the most likely scenario.

How old is the mouse, have you been LANing a lot with it? how long after purchase did the problem start?

Also, have you tried using another USB mouse at all? I only ask to eliminate it being something screwy with Windows or theUSB bus on the mobo.

I have to agree with MasterP, i had my usb's go bad on the Motherboard and ended up buying a USB 2.0 PCI card to solve my problem. Or like he said too it could also be the mouse itself causing the problem the only thing you could do is try another usb mouse 1st before you get a USB PCI card.

How many other USB devices do you have plugged in? With your generic PSU (that may or may not be putting out its rated wattage) and what appears to be a pretty loaded system, you could be lacking sufficient 5V power for USB.

I have essentially the same system as yourself:
A7N8X-DX
Barton 2500+
1GB RAM
9800 pro
3 HDDs

No soundcard or Raptors and it's running on a 500W PSU. I occasionally have USB problems too, but usually with my USB headset. Your PSU seems a bit low for running all of that.

killert may have stumbled upon a way to test it. Try using the PS/2 adapter that came with the mouse. If nothing else it would eliminate the wiring in the mouse itself as the culprit. Or confirm it.

I have been having some issues with my mouse as well. I have 2 small Logitech wired optical mouses, and while they both work fine on my other PC's, I have issues on this rig.

A7N8X-X motherboard
Sempron 2400+ @ 1900MHZ (190x10)
Sapphire 9250 video card also OCed (245GPU/190Mem)
1 - 40GB Maxtor HDD
stock heatsink lapped w/70mm fan modded on

My mouse every once in a while just shoots up to the top left corner. While trying to play games like UT, I will randomly spin around 3 times very fast. I don't recall having this problems with other mice using this rig. However I had a problem with the PSU (bad solder job, had a cap come free), between that and this PSU being slightly underpowered I am starting to think perhaps the 5v rail is getting weak. Guess I am already playing musical hardware this week in preparation for a new desk (FINALLY, a place to run all of my gear!), so I'll swap out this 350w for a 520w and see how it goes.

Good luck fixing your mouse. If you find out the problem, post it up!

Alright well I figured out that it was indeed the mouse's fault. I exchanged my MX500 for my brother's simple usb mouse and we both have been using them for a couple of days. My brother has told me that the mouse has been randomly turning off, and that he must restart in order to re-activate it. I doubt he tried to un-plug and plug it back in, but it still dissapoints me that the mouse is having problems. His mouse has been working flawlessly on my computer, so I guess my mouse really is the problem. Oh well, every cloud has its silver lining. This just means I have a mouse to use as mod project before actually modding a working mouse. I have to wait until my work has employee discount day so I can buy an MX1000 =(
