nec dvd burner won't read CDs or burn them

It will read and burn DVDs though. I not really sure what happened it just stopped working last Thursday. It has the latest firmware.

Model No: NEC ND-3540A

Any suggestions or should I just scrap it?

Well if worst comes to worst and you cant fix it, that'd be perfect for my G4 tower that I want to use for movies. Anything a GB and under will fit on my flash drive...

I'd pay shipping on that thing.

if i am understanding you right it does not work now is what your saying, have you tried to see if your cables maybe came lose on the back of your dvd writer.

@dreyco Well, it still burns dvds so I might keep it. If I get rid of it it's yours.

It reads and burns dvds, just not cds.

Is it the latest drivers and drivers for that?
Also, swap out the cable w/ another and see if it works.

I have the latest drivers and I swapped cables earlier w/ no luck.

I would say that you might have an issue with your ASPI. Either that or the burner is trying to quit on you. What program and version do you use to burn stuff with?

I'm a little confused. I thought ASPI was only w/ SCSI drives.

build 7.0.353.0

The drive can't play CDs either, so I don't think it could be the burning software.

reflash the firmware... with same version.... if still no luck... go to an earlier revision of firmware...
