Default IPod Alternatives

So today my IPod Photo 30Gb died. I have decided that apple will not get any more of my money. After only having my ipod (the one in my avatar) for a year and 3 months I have decided that iPods are nice, but thier lifespan is not worth what you pay. My girlfriend purchased a 40gb 4th gen non-color ipod in january of '05. She now owns a 30 gb video. Her 40gb has issues of its own, but still works. After seen these two ipods die after less than 2 years I just don't want to give apple any more of my money. So I'm in the market for a new Ipod Alternative. I'm looking for the best bang for my buck. Something with around 10gb (was 20gb) of space. Somthing around less than $200.

Let me know what ya'll have in mind and what yall have heard about the competition.

IAudio X5 is what Vertical_Zer0 has, and it's not a bad video mp3 player. I thought it was decent, you may want to check it out.

Iriver h120, h140, or the h3xx series. And put rockbox on them, that will get you superb audio, but no video, mostly for hardcore audio fanatics.

I personally hated the ipod, the audio was crap, and EQ just made it worse, rockbox was ok, but it still couldnt put out what a 280$ mp3player should.

I don't really use an IPOD....................I really can't in my line of work as it would be considered "Unprofessional" to be seen with an IPOD.....................Now, my alternative (and I do like to listen to the tunes too) is my new cellphone...........Although, it has a small storage (47.5m) I can store 15-20 songs (which is all I really need)............Maybe some of the newer PDAs would be an alternative.

Toshiba Gigabeat S is the hot ticket right now, some are calling it the iPod killer. A bit higher than your looking at though.

Anything with a hard drive will soon be replaced with flash memory. I say save your money and even though you say you dont like apple anymore wait for the 8 gig nano to come out.

Thank you guys. After looking around some and after some consideration of my music collection I've changed my post above.

I'm leaning towards the Zen MicroPhoto 8GB. Anyone have/had one and know any pros/cons about it?

My sterio jack on mine started to cut in and out when you moved it in your pocket after about 2 weeks, might be isolated but who knows. I would say I cared for it well. If you end up getting it, I have an extra battery pack!

Ipods are great I will give them that. They are one of the most user friendly mp3 players I have used. iTunes isn't half bad either. I just feel like they dont last for what you pay for.

Eh, I wasnt so impressed with my 30 gig video, I think I also went for the wrong type of player. I'm very anal when it comes to audio, which would explain why I dumped 300$ on a set of grado headphones.

I did love the video though, the lcd has an amzing quality. But unfortunately, it east the battery.

Yes, the unser interface is awsome, I like it as well, but I was jsut hugely dissapointed in the audio, its just not what it should be, I mean, your paying almost 300$, I would expect to get some nice audio out of it.

You'll have to change your avatar. No offense, man, but good riddance

edit: realizing immediately afterwards that I have no room to talk about changing avatars
