Default Printer problems my usb cable makes pc reboot

I am having a odd problem with my Epson R300 printer, ok this is the problem i am having when i install all the software for my printer it is fine, it is when it ask me to hook up the USB cable to a USB port on my PC it makes my computer reboot and on the process of rebooting it gets hung up on the window start up screen so i have to reboot the computer like 3 times before it finally gets all the way threw the boot up to the main desk top screen then it is fine, I am running W2K OS and i done just about everything to make sure everything is updated such as drivers and also windows updates and made sure all the drivers for my Motherboard all updated too, i am starting to believe this problem might be related to the USB ports that are on my Motherboard, can anyone here help me resolve this issue your help would greatly appreciated...

are you plugging it into a usb port that is built on to the motherboard or one that is an addon or on the case?

also have you tried a diffrent usb cable?

Its an IRQ problem, I have run into these into the past... I forget how I fixed it though. I would suggest reinstalling your usb drivers and printer driver. Its a big pain in the ass let me tell ya.

I have done that already and it still keeps doing the same thing, i am almost convince it is the on board USB ports that is the problem because when i hook it up to a USB PCI card it is fine. i just can not seem to find out what the problem is with the motherboard USB are.
