Default Mobo Problems

I have a Gigabyte GA-K8NS motherboard, and believe it fried but not positive. I think the problem was caused by trying to connect a firewire port to the usb on board, and the usb didn't support firewire IEEE 1394 . When I tried bunch of times to turn on the computer it would start up for about five seconds the turn off. Then I decided to give it one more try, i turned on the computer then the mobo got so hot I could smell it it burn.

Well , if you could smell it , then you most likely cooked SOMETHING . Try unhooking EVERYTHING exsept the CPU and one stick of ram, and of cours power, and video, then try to boot it up and see if you get a bios screen, and also see if you get a light on the board to know you are getting power. If you dont get anything , try the CPU on a different board, then if you get it to boot up , you've narrowed it down to the board.

That stick of ram could have easily been damaged when your mobo burned up.

I thought about that too but both sticks of ram work fine. I was thinking about clearing the cmos, but i'm not sure if that will help.

You can't expect the pinouts to be the same for firewire and USB. Smooth move. Well, I guess we learn more from our failures than our successes. Keep on learning because the motherboard makers keep making them!

i thought the board did support firewire because the pins look the exact same way as the front usb pins on board...and yes, i learned my lesson.

now if we can get over that issue, and get to the point on my ram issue i would appreciate it.
