Default Ultra X-Connect

Can I buy the 20 to 24 pin cable for my Ultra X-Connect 500w PSU and use it in a system with
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium and a 6800 GT pci-E? X-Connect doesn't specify it supports pci-E, but isn't the molex to 6 pin connector the same thing?

One problem down.

As for running pci-e:

(O and they have other colors :-)

However if you are going to run SLi I would get a better PSU

I will be the first to admit that I have had no problems with my gen 1 XC. However, I agree with IcEMage, if you're going for SLI, you'll want to AT LEAST get one of the gen 2 XCs, if not a completely different brand (like PC Power and Cooling, etc).

Tru,

I had the first gen also, I loved it however the voltages were not as stable as I wanted. My Hiper works wonders with my new setup.

No plans for SLI, I meant to nuke this thread because 15 seconds after making it I found the new sets of cables they sold seperately

Good job IcE. Performance-PC's are good people too. Always a pleasure to deal with.

The only issue with using those cables instead of having a native 24-pin and PCI-e is the resistance created by the split in the wires. But the split is done up at the modular interface connection, so the resistance is about as minimal as it would be with any modular power supply.

To each their own. When I had an X-Connect, I was running a pair of 6800's w/ no problem. Of course, I HAVE TO use an Ultra no matter what (duh!) But I'm using an X-Finity now, which comes natively w/ 24-pin and 6-pins and I'm not going to kid you and say it's not a better power supply then the X-Connect ever was (then again, I work for Ultra... I'm SUPPOSED TO say that.)

This is just a temporary fix to hold me over 1-2 months. As long as no damage will be done to my system I'm content with it. When I upgrade to 2gb XMS and a second 6800 I'll get a beefy PSU and do some serious OCing. For now I plan to run just a smidge above stock settings. Sound good? :

Athlon 64 3700
1gb pc3200 Corsair ValueSelect
Ultra X-Connect
DiamondMax 10 200gb Sata
Gigabyte 6800 GT pci-e
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
Thermaltake SVA4000 "Viking" case
ASilver 5/Zalman VF700-CU / CNPS7000B ALCU coolers
