Unhappy Wireless Card causes freezes

I have had serious problems with my PC for a while now. And I have done a bunch of troubleshooting (thread 1 thread 2 thread 3.) I had noticed that my problems , fatal system errors and freezes, intensified when I installed my wireless card.

When it freezes
I am now sure that the problem is my wireless card, because when I disable the wireless internet connection (not just disconnect, but disable) I can leave my PC on forever and it doesnt freeze. However, when the network adaptor is enabled, whether it is connected to a network or not, my system freezes after a time period of 30 seconds to 30 minutes. Its a Trendnet TEW-443PI super g wireless card.

What I have tried
(OS is XP sp2) Under device manager XP reports no resource conflicts. I have reinstalled, physically and w/ software, the card atleast 5 times now, and tried it in different PCI slots (reinstalling each time of course.) Each time I reinstall I follow the manual's directions exactly. The card comes with its own utility, and the manual says to disable XP's utility. This is what I do, and the problem still persists. I have tried using XP's utility and not the one that came with the card, and I still have the problem. The problem happens whenever the device is enabled, regardless of whether it is connected or what utility I use.

Again, im sure its the card because I have left the PC on for hours with it disabled, and doing intensive tasks like Photoshop and games, and it runs normally.

I also had the idea it was a bad card. However, both me and my brother both have the same identical card, and we swapped. Even with the 'new' card I still get the same problem.

Temperature?
One thing is odd. When my PC is turned off the entire day, and I get home and turn it on, I can use the wireless card for about 1 or 2 hours. But, then it freezes, and if I turn the PC right back on, the card freezes within a much shorter time, about 30 seconds to 30 minutes. This makes me think it may be overheating, but I touch the encasing on the card (the metal encasing over the main IC, it has a sticker on it, so its ok to touch it just to feel its temp) and it is just warm, so I dont see how it could be overheating.

So what do I need to do, mess around with IRQ's? Any help would be great.

plug it into a diffrent computer and see if you have the same issue...

if not, it can be a couple of things....

1. bad driver install
2. your power supply is at its limit.
3. the pci latency is set to low

In your BIOS, under Advanced Chipset Features, is PCI Delay Transaction set to Enabled? (It should be for the wireless card to work properly.)

With wireless equipment being as cheap as it is, it may cost less in time and frustration to go buy a new wireless card, bridge, or USB adapter. Since your old card works fine in your brother's computer, it's probably not broken; you might be able to get a couple bucks selling it.

I ran into a similar problem with wireless cards locking up my computer. I did a bunch of research, tried every PCI slot and the only thing that worked was switching to a USB wireless card (and halfing my speeds as well).

The issue was a conflict between my VIA chipset and the chipset that is used on practically all wireless network cards. I tried D-link and linksys and both would lock my computer up immediately.

interesting, I have a VIA chipset as well. Guess I need to just get another wireless adaptor.
