| your router shouldnt be assigning lease times for DHCP assigned IP addresses...if it is, make them either ridiculously long, or disable them if possible...
manually configuring your computers network information instead of letting DHCP do it for you can be wonderful...this should be done anyway (recommended)...and if you dont know your own ISPs DNS, just use 4.2.2.1 as primary, and 4.2.2.2 as secondary... make sure you are using WEP or some protection on your network, i personally use a 64bit ASCII WEP key and that basically equates to a simple 5 letter password that someone has to use to log into your network, this is to eliminate the possibility of your network being hijacked from a wardriver / warchalker and they might be fooling with your routers settings...
also make sure your antennae power is at 100%
lastly, if you are using a PPPoE internet connection, you MIGHT have to use a BRIDGE MODE for your connection (procedure for doing this is different for all modems and isp's), this is basically telling your modem to use your router as a gateway to WAN for your local computers, and allowing your local computers to use the routers IP address as the gateway instead of the modems ip address...and yes, for PPPoE...this can cause mucho problemos....
if none of what i just suggested does anything for you, then promptly return that router however you have to and grab a different brand.... |
