Default What's a good hard drive

I'm about to upgrade to a better hard drive, i'm looking mainly towards performance. I was looking at the 74gb raptors and noticed the seek time on them were 5.2ms, and i didn't really know what it meant. Also i was looking at a seagate 160gb sata and noticed the seek time were at 8.5ms, so if someone could please explain the difference that would help a little. I want a faster hard drive, hopefully to make some games load faster as well.

Check out http://www.storagereview.com/ . The have good reviews and benchmarks for almost all the newer drives. I like the new SATA hitachi desktars personally, they are only a stones throw from the speed of a raptor and lot cheaper. 2 of them in Raid 0 hauls arse.

I second that - I have the SATA2 hitachi and they are fast and quiet.

Edit: BTW - what mobo/chipset do you have? you need a 945/955 intel or a NF4 to take advantage of SATA2

Also, SCSI is really fast if you can handle it...

I've always looked at "silence over speed"... hence I own a couple of Seagate Baraccuda & Samsung
Spinpoint drives.... these new Hitachi drives seem to be excellent choices as well, fast & virtually silent!

Raptors are fast but much too loud for my sensitive ears...
