| Recentley my system has started to randomley freeze for no apparant reason, not long ago i added a stick of 1gig PC3200 crucial RAM to my system wich allready had a 512mb stick of PC2700 RAM, i am aware that the faster stick will run as slow as the slower one but am not too botherd atm. to begin i tried rolling back the system settings because i suspected it mite have been a recent WoW patch update, but it froze again almost straight away. Next removed the new 1gig stick of memory but the crashes continued the i had some advice to try re-installing the CPU wich i did and the crashes stoped! WOOHOO so after a day of leaving my computer on and no freezes i decided yyee i'l whack that 1gig stick in and lo and behold it crashes again that very night i need help as i'm vry confused, i think adding the 1gig of RAM is changing something that must have been reset when i reinstalled the CPUpppllleeeaaassseeee help me!!!!!!!! ![]() | ||

| Read page 2-4 & 3-4 of your manual. It specifies Identical speed and size moduals ONLY . Try setting the mem timings in the bios for the slowest modual . your manual also said to reset the bios after changing mem. you'll have to buy another stick of 1 gig to get it to work in dual channel anyway . good luck | ||

| What those pimps said hit the nail on the head but i thought id throw out some knowledge for you. Did you know that 95% of the time when you Win OS computer freezes, the operating system is actually saving itself. Its an actual function of windows to freeze when certain files are at stake and are being threatened. Certain .dll files is basically what that is referring to. I remember reading a while back on Linux never freezes, which makes it so much better.....Or so we though eh? How this pertains to your computer? Most likely your mobo is not handling the unmatched ram very well and when it references a file on bootup to your ram for quick access, windows is seeing the instability there and freezes itself to protect the file. Do exactly as the guys said above and you should be gravy man. | ||

| Thrill Kill gave you a link to MemTest, have you run that yet? It would be a good start. You might have some bad ram or several other problems. Beyond MemTest, contact your RAM manufacturer. OCZ helped me out alot, most of them have online forums, could be ram timmings, lots o'stuff. Good Luck. E I am assuming you have taken care of spyware/virus options. If you have not, that could be a problem. How many running processes do you have when you boot? E Last edited by Fred_G; 08-December-05 at 09:34 PM.. Reason: info | ||

How many programs do you have start up when you boot? I think I have 18 or 19 processes started when I boot. 41 seems a little high, unless you run a lot of stuff in the background on purpose. Check out the RAM's company website. You might also try updating chipset drivers, that worked for me, but I think I just got lucky! Here is a link about the running processes, might help you out. http://www.answersthatwork.com/Taskl...s/tasklist.htm Good luck, keep us posted. E Last edited by Fred_G; 10-December-05 at 10:13 PM.. | i tested a stick of ram for a trade the other day, laid my computer on its side, tested it, worked fine... put my old ram back in, ran for a few minutes, crashed.... put new ram in, crashed... no matter what i did....crashed.... then i realized the fan on my VIDEO CARD had seized up (from dust, and laying system on its side)... put an old pentium 1 cpu fan on it, my system hasnt crashed in 2 weeks... ...check your video card fan.... | ||
