Have you dropped this machine lately? If not, chances are good that your jumper is right where it should be, and you've got a drive problem, something severe. If you *have* dropped the machine, then the drive still may be out of whack .. I killed a DVD+/-RW last week by tearing off the front plate of my case and forgetting that the drive mounts in from the front ... Urg.
Anyway, long story short, if your drive won't open, but it's got power (see a light anywhere when it boots up?) then you're screwed. If no light, you
OS may *believe* you have the drive, but the BIOS knows better. Check the cable seating on the
mobo.
