Default DVD drive not working

Ok, for some reason my computer isnt detecting my dvd drive at least my BIOS isnt. Well, when I boot up I get a POST error saying it isnt there. Well, I continue to load windows go into device manager and it says its there. I then go into everest it also says its there. But the problem is when I go to open the dvd drive it dosent open I cant figure it out. I have tryed several different ide cables, several power cables but nothing is working. Any ideas? I really need to use it to burn some music because I'm leaving tomorrow for the holidays and I need my music while on the plane. Help will be greatly appreciated

TK has a good point... also, make sure that the IDE is firmly seated both in the drive and on the mobo.

Have you dropped this machine lately? If not, chances are good that your jumper is right where it should be, and you've got a drive problem, something severe. If you *have* dropped the machine, then the drive still may be out of whack .. I killed a DVD+/-RW last week by tearing off the front plate of my case and forgetting that the drive mounts in from the front ... Urg.

Anyway, long story short, if your drive won't open, but it's got power (see a light anywhere when it boots up?) then you're screwed. If no light, you OS may *believe* you have the drive, but the BIOS knows better. Check the cable seating on the mobo.
