Default Repairin' an HDD ... is it DOable?

Hey every/anyone,
I have a 60gb WD and an 80gb WD, the 60 is NOISY as hell, and the 80 keeps crappin out when tryin to install an OS and iv'e try like 6 times.** i get that "not equal to ....... BSOD** , with everything i tryed. I'm wondering if it would be possible to salvage one drive out of the 2. Like maybe take the green board off the 60 and pop it on the 80 or ????

any idea's or am i being a dreamer, and should just accept defeat.

I'de say accept defeat. Once you crack the seal on HDD's the life of it is limited as aven a speck of dust will kill a platter once it starts moving.

Proud of ya for trying.
However if dust will kill the disk then metal shavings will not make it run faster!

It may work but you better know the number of cylinders and the sect size and all that crap for the drive your repairing. The green board has the chip that stores all that info for the Auto detection settings. And it may work anyways if you stick the 60 board in the 80. It will just report it as a 60 (possibility). If you 80 to 60 I'm sure you'll have to adjust it yourself.

Yea I have that same article, give me a second and I'll find it..

EDIT: found it:
http://www.afrotechmods.com/cheap/hd...hdspeakers.htm
G4 article:http://www.g4tv.com/screensavers/fea..._Speakers.html

And a second version:http://www.sorgonet.com/trashing/speakerbox/

A friend of mine built these, and you can hear it, you had to use a paper cone to do so.

Ok heres the pics of of the operation ..............

First, here's my " CLEAN ROOM" all set up and sterilized

my patiant's,after some laughing gas ..............

The controller card sawp

The one **hopefully good drive, NOT!!!!!!!** hooked up , and imagian that its not detected

and hers the NOISY drive hooked to my " Tester PSU"

and the conclusion is ................ now BOTH DRIVES are noisy, so im gonna drill some holes in the platters and install L.E.D.'s so i get the "DISCO" effect or strobe light ......................

oh well............. next time i'll use good HDD's so maybe the swap will work HEHE

heh if you actually need to open a HDD up you can do so in a steamed up bathroom. the steam gathers the dust and keeps it out of the air. then you cut the hot water off (or other steam producer) and let it settle. pop the drive and go to work
