| I guess this is a strange post subject, i wasn't sure where to put it exactly. Anyway, the Gist of it is that Ultra has a standard 3-year warranty for their power supplys. That's cool, but the wierd part is the method of RMA. Step 1. you purchase a new PSU from them. Via the phone, and they give you your order and RMA number then. Step 2. you wait for the PSU to arrive, when it does (not before) you box up your fried one and send it to them. Step 3. you wait for them to confirm the death and validity of death. They then reimburse you for the cost of the new PSU that you just bought minus the shipping charge. ($5 or so) now does that not seem fishy? I know they are trying to ensure a smooth transaction, but what if they don't warranty your PSU? Well they have a 3 day, that's right THREE DAY return policy, so you are basically stuck with the new PSU you purchased from them, if they don't warranty your fried one. It really doesn't seem like it's worth it. Any thoughts on this weirdness? I already purchased a replacement from CompUSA with a 2 year protection plan, so it almost seems like I should just cut my losses and move on from Ultra products all together. .d | ||

Why would you purchase a 2 year protection plan on an Ultra power supply? If you register any Ultra online you get a Lifetime Warranty. http://www.ultraproducts.com/register.php The only reason they would not honor the warranty is if you opened the unit up or did something funky. At any rate, I do agree, it would be nice to have the "determination of guilt" made before you threw more money at them. But, this would slow the replacement process down, and that's the angle (I suppose) behind their methods. I did RMA an X-connect though, it was DOA from Tiger Direct. I called Tiger, they charged me for a new one, I got it very quickly and they reimbursed my card in a few days upon receiving the bum unit.. It worked out very well.

Hey thanks for the input! That definately makes me feel a little better about the deal.
No i bought an Antec SmartPower from COMPusa and got the 2 year protection plan. It seems like a nice PSU thusfar, but i obviously havn't been able to actually test it yet, just installation and quality, seems very solid. (not so flashy though) I may try the RMA later this week after i get paid. Thanks again! .d

| are you doing an rma or an advanced rma? typical rma .... send bad part back, they send new / referbished part back aslong as there has been no physical damage or mis-use typical turn around 2 to 3 weeks adavanced rma .. you pay for the new part, they send it to you right away and you get your money back when you send them back the part.. as long as there is no physical damage or mis-use typical turn around 2 to 3 days... now if they charge you cuz of physcal damage... you can send back the new power supply and get your money and old power supply back | ||

Ultra told me the only warranty service they offer is the Advanced RMA. But they also said that i could not send the new PSU back if they do not reimburse me. Maybe the guy misunderstood my question? Thanks for the input.
