Default Ultra X-Connect 2

I'm working at Fry's Electronics right now. Apparently we purchased the entire world's supply of Ultra X-Connect 2 power supplies. You cannot buy them anywhere else. (The guys in charge told us that they did this during an online video conference).

The only obvious difference between the X-Connect 2 and the old X-Connect is that the new one is ATX 2.2 so it has the 24 pin connector as well as dual 12 volt rails. While still nowhere as good as an Antec TruePower and not even touching an Antec HE, the Ultra X-Connect 2's are apprently "Now 33% Less Crappier". Being from Ultra they're pretty likely to be put on sale for next to nothing the day after Thanksgiving, so this could be a good thing for mid-range builds. Just remember, although the 2.2 version is "Now 33% Less Crappier" the original version (which we have several hundred of) still has a tendency to explode.

Now, since I put this in Tech Support. My question: "How the hell do you get rid of an entire world's supply of Ultra X-Connect 2's from a single chain store?"

For a start, you distribute a few hundred of them amongst the fellow regulars at PimpRig.

Come into Fry's, I'll sell them to you. Maybe I'll give you employee discount if I like you enough ;-)

ooh, ooh...I'm lookin for a new PSU...where are you at for the employee discount? You wouldn't happen to work at Fry's in Renton, WA would you? Please?

EDIT: Thanks for postin your location...unfortunately an employee discount on a psu isnt worth the flight to atlanta...oh well

Mine has been nothing but good news since I bought it. Kinda sad a lot of people don't like them or have had problems.

They call that "Flex Force" cabling. Basically making it more difficult to identify which cables are which voltage level, if you're into sleeving.

They claim the new 500 can handle a constant 500 load rather than short peak loads of 500.That sounds like a good selling point to me on top of the coolest looks around!!!Jo.

well i think the point of this was to make the cables still look as good as the x-connect but be ALOT more flexable...i dont think aditional sleeving was is in mind when they made it....same as the x-connect, a selling point as sleeving a psu takes a long ace time.

Im also looking at the Type-R psu's, those things are pimp, and got a good review from the best forum on the net

Yeah, if i came into some money for a new build, that would be going in a chenbro gaming bomb 2 with white LED fans.

And the 120MM fan, and the dual PCI-e conectors and the two native SATA connectors.

Don't knock it until you try it. The X2 isn't even made in the same factory as the original X-Connect. The thing is a beast and we're STILL working on making it even better.

I would hereby like to state that I will not respond to any X-Connect flames... at least not on the record.

But I don't think they're going on sale anytime soon. Believe it or not, Fry's had the exclusive because we knew Fry's could move them. We don't have enough supply to meet demand right now. It takes A LOT of labor to solder up all of those modular connections. Each PSU takes about twice as long to make as a regular power supply. The X-Finity actually takes three times as long because the wires soldered down to the PSU's PCB aren't color coded! They're all UV reactive silver! They have to be soldered one wire at a time.

Yeah I don't really get the hard-core animosity towards Ultra, Yohan. Have you had one blow up on you? I love my X-connect, and it's never given me a single problem (one of the few parts in my case I can make that comment about).

It's too bad that the 2.0 version is only at Fry's, since there aren't any around here. I guess I'll have to wait for distrubution to widen a bit

They'll start popping up more and more places over the next couple weeks. It's not so much a "Fry's exclusive" as it is Fry's orders got filled first.

I still have one of the original v.1 X-Connects and it is still powering a gaming computer with no problems. Of course there are better PSU's out there, but at the right price it is still a good buy.

can't find it on the site or in these posts, but I was wondering . . . SLi compatibility? It seems that it has the specs (2 PCIe cables) and plenty of power, but it's not actually noted on the Ultra site.

Anybody know? (sorry for the newb ?)

BTW-that's an excellent looking PSU

Glad to see that Ultra is representing on the boards!

I have the same Ultra X-connect I won here at PR running in my rig right now. It looks like they fixed the only real problem I had with it, which is the stiffness of the cables. Nice going Ultra, and I'll be sure to check your products out for my next build.

Call me shallow, but a big reason I bought the original X Connect was because it looked rather slick.

Anyone got some pictures they might post? *Looks at JC@Ultra*
