Default Bad quality DVDs from writer?

I've encountered poor quality DVDs after burning from my hard drive for a long time and I was curious if anyone knows why. Either the audio/ video tracking will be slightly off or there will be skipping. I'm using a 16x , Dual Format, Double Layer DVD+-R writer ( which I believed to be the best quilty and fastest writer available) and this is my third writer this has happened with. Friends say that they have similiar experiences when they burn to DVD. Please help a bewildered rig-pimper out.....Thanxs!

The quality of the media itself is often to blame for this ... sort of.

Some DVD's can't be burned at high speed: Your hardware may be able to burn a DVD at 16x, but the media you're using might only be able to burn at 4x. To solve that, when you are burning that media, make sure you run a test process first to validate the best possible speed to burn. It takes longer, I realize, but you get a better product in the end.

burning it a slower speed can help as godling said...

also make sure when you are burning that the buffer doesnt zero out... that can be an issue to

and last but not least do a firmware update to your burner... you might get better prefromance out of it...

While the burner could be going bad it's usually either the media or software used. I've had good luck with RiData media and for recoding DVD's I use CloneDVD. I have tried Nero and pinnacle DVD software and I finally tried CloneDVD. Nero is slightly faster (with my setup I can recode and burn a DVD in 25 minutes or less) but CloneDVD is only a minute or 2 slower and I haven't made a coaster since I started using it almost a year ago.

Myself i do a lot of DVD burning and I have to agree with ThrillKill on this try burning at a slower speed. Also make sure your DVD writer is up to date with firm ware, also the media that you maybe using is probably not compatible with your writer that also can cause a lot of the issues you are having. I have a Sony DVD writer and i have to use ether Ritek or BeAll media, there are others that work on my writer but these are the only 2 that i have used and have probably ruin maybe 2 disc out of like 300 so i do not bother trying others. When you buy media depending where you get it from most places will tell you what DVD writers are compatible with what media to use.

Here is a couple places i get my DVD and CDR Media from you can check out, they all tell you which media works best with what DVD writer you have.

RiData and Ritech are one and the same. I buy mine from NewEgg. I won't shop anywhere else.

It's hard to beat the deal rebate or not. I only shop newegg because the prices are alway on the low end an they have never questioned an RMA request. I bought over $10,000 worth of parts from them last year for myself and others.

That cool Slaymate, i was just pointing out to ZTECHGUY where to check out to see what brand of media he/she could find that would be the right media to fit the DVD writer they might be using.
