Default how to UNdo SATA RAID 0 ???

Hello, its me, the annoying NOOB here with yet another question........

I have 2 WD 160gb SATA HDD's and i had them set in RAID 0, i took them out of my rig put in one big drive and was going to put one ea of these in different rigs. I put one in a rig and fired it up but it says 2 things

#1 - i need 2 or more **** drives to set up raid ( i dont wanna set up raid )

#2 - if i boot from cd to install windows it says the drive is not installed, but bios see's it.

Now ive gone into bios and looked for ANYTHING that has to do with raid setup and there is nothing, tryed the WD diag disk and it says it formated the disk so im stumped.

any ideas , comments , or if ya like you can now commence to pointing and mocking me

spec's AMD Athlon 64 3200+ , MSI K8N-Neo V - 383mb ram , NO cards and 1 HP 48x cdrom

When you set up a RAID 0 array, it puts half the data OF EACH FILE on one drive and half on the other. You have to put both of them back together in a RAID 0, and somehow transfer the data to a backup drive if you've got one.

Image the raid 0 array, then restore it to a single drive.

If I understand corectly HTRN does not want the raid so does not care about the data. He is breaking
up the raid 0 pair on purpose to use the drives seperatly in 2 diffrent rigs.

Sorry bro I havent the answer to your delima I have never tried to break up a raid.

You got it exactlly Bro, sorry i wasnt clear enuff and for the help you guys offered, but yeah , i dont need the data and also i dont have another drive to use as a mirror **none big enuff** i just wondered why , Windows XP Pro wont install now one just one drive . It goes through everything then when it says

Hit ENTER to set up windows
hit R to repair

i tryed both and it doesnt see the disk drive, but when starting the pc bios see's the drive. It tells me there is no disk drive installed and to hit F3 to cansel.

hope this clears up the problem some, if not or if ya need more info i will try to explain further.

Default RAID stuff

Clear CMOS, use another program/computer to format the drive, which I think you have done. I am thinking this is a BIOS isuue, on my BIOS, RAID is hard to find! On mine it is under Integrated Peripherals, then Onboard PCI Devices.

If the board is looking for a RAID and does not find it, it is a setting in the BIOS. If I am thinking correctly, RAIDS must be set up before the OS, so the BIOS is looking for a RAID, and can not find it. The drivers would be on the hard drive, but I think your BIOS is set for RAID.

Good luck! If all else fails, just send the offending RAID drives to me! lol.

if you're trying to format through the windows xp disc, you need to install the sata drivers during installation. after booting from the win xp disc, you'll see a message that says "Hit F6 to install third party drivers" or something like that. Windows Installation won't see it until you do that. Microsoft really should have just put all the common sata drivers on the more recent discs . ..

Get a Win98 bootdisk, boot to A:, and run Fdisk. Clear both drive partitions and reformat, then reinstall.

yup... and you may have to clear the master boot records on both disks (im not a 100%)

to do this... boot off that 98 boot disk (www.bootdisk.com) then explore to each drive

type fdisk /mbr

and thats pretty much it

also on a side note ... if you install linux, and then decide you want to go back to windows. no matter how many times you format the disk the lilo \ grub boot loader will still be there ... the fdisk /mbr cleans that out!
