Default Monitor extension cable

Hey guys, I was moving my rig around after finding a monitor extension cable. The reason for the move was to reduce cable clutter on the floor.

Anyways, I found that the cable seriously degrades the picture that comes out to my monitor. It's all hazy and there's a slight ghost image of everything. I was wondering if any of you have had a similar experience with extension cables.

This is my only rig at the moment so I would like a picture that isn't so harsh on the eyes. So assuming that my extension cable is utter garbage I was wondering if any of you have any ideas for me. I wouldn't be opposed to making my own cable or even going out and buying a new one.

Any and all suggestion are both welcome and appreciated. Thanks

there could be a couple reasons
1. the cable is to long, and the signal quality is degrading
2. reroute the cable, it may be picking up interference from something
3.recheck the connectors and cable, are there any eposed wires ir broken insulation
you might just need a shorter higher quality extension cable for your application

RBIEZE is right on what to check , and the longer the cable the higher quality it should be , i've use a few at times and i have found that even a 6ft cable if its a junk brand low quality cable will degrade the signal. At the same time i have used a 15ft cable **from a VideoGaming Co.** that was perfect. How long of one are you using, if needed i might have a couple and i could shoot ya one for cheap. I have tons of cables for every known app. there is lol

Well, I just rechecked the cord and it looks to be fine physically. The insulation is intact. I've also used a second monitor to test to see if it was my monitor...turns out it's not. I also used the second monitor to reroute the cord so that there's no intereference both physical and electrical. That didn't seem to help. I guess I've just got a garbage cord.

Just for reference it's approximately 9-10ft and made by Belkin. Apparently it's their "Pro Series for Optimum Data Transfer". Shyeah....right.

Anyways, HTRN if you have a good cord about that length I'd be willing to buy that off your hands. Or someone could just recommend me a good brand name to buy from and where I might be able to find it. A brick and mortar store would be appreciated as paying in cash would be easier on my credit statement.

Thanks for your help so far guys. Much appreciated

That's cool. I'm not really in that big of a hurry. I've set up a smaller monitor in the meanwhile. And thanks again HTRN

the cable you have isnt rated for the resolution you want to run. most monitor extentions are only for SVGA and can barely do XGA. so you have you buy a better cable. generally if it has a ferrite at each end it should be able to handle higher resolutions.

Would that be something that was listed? Or is that something I'd have to look into myself?

thats if your digging through a used cable bin or at a generic parts store. if you buy online they should list its maximum supported resolution in the specs.
i use a normal monitor cable and a gender change adapter as an extension.
