okay, i bought an lcd on ebay for 5 bucks it has a hd447 whatever compatible controller (SANYO LC7985NA).....

looks like a serial lcd to me

and technically u have 12 pins..since u have those 2 wires comming out of the side (for backlight)

serch for hooking up serial lcd tutorual on google..

thank you very much! i should've stated that i wanted to know if it was parallel or serial (thats very important) seems like serial. ive found out the pins:

1 VSS
2 VCC
3 VEE (contrast basically [add a 10k pot])
4 RS
5 R/W
6 E (strobe/enable)
7 DB4
8 DB5
9 DB6
10 DB7

now theres only 4 data line instead of 8 like other lcd's,
is this serial?
also, i know i need a converter for the EL. any tips hints? or just make/buy one?

im not familiar with serial interphase, but i know it can be controlled with only one data wire....

i would just mod the lcd to use an led instead of the elwire..
