Default First time network

Ok guys, I was just given a Linksys Etherfast 10/100 Auto-sensing 8-port workgroup HUB (model # EFAH08W)
I plan on setting up a home network with it, but I have absolutly NO experiance in doing so. AS of right now, I will only be hooking up 2 XP boxes and my cable.

Thanks

Casper

Ok goes like this:
Most DSL/Cable modems dont have intergrated routing (well my Westell 2100 does so I can just hook it to a hub) so tell us your model/manufactuer of your modem and we can go from there.
Chances are youll need a router. Why? because routers assign ip's etc and routes data to each, hence the name router.
Hub simply splits your connection, if your modem doesnt assign DCHP and perform routing functions then it wont work, but if it does, then your hub will work flawlessly.

Please see above post for make/brand and model # of my hub.

Edit: Nevermind, didn't read it correctly, I can give you my current modem later tonight when I get to the house, but I will be moving in a few weeks (buying a house, WOOHOO) so it will be changing since I have to change IP's.

I said "so tell us your model/manufactuer of your modem."
your Modem not your hub, what model/manufactuer is it?

EDIT: Ok tell me the Make/Model when you get home...
Why are you changing your modem just to change IP's?
If you have static IP even then when you move you would keep that IP.

I am moving to a different parish, so I have to get a different provider, and the modem I have now belongs to my current ISP.
(left out the "s")

Ah, I recommend a Westell or speedstream modem, ask your next ISP in advance if theyre modem can be used with a hub (has intergrated router)
