Default Generic drivers

After a quick spyware scan, the drivers for the CD/DVD-ROM on my PC have either been corrupted or have dissapeared. I can no longer use my CD drive or DVD drive in any way whatsoever. I have tried to update drivers, rollback drivers, looked on the net for more drivers but have had no luck getting them working again.

Basically, I need to reinstall the generic drivers that come with Windows, but dont know how to go about it without completely reinstalling Windows. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated, as I just got some awesome new software and I cant use as I cant install it. >.>

Cheers.

Do you have the CD that came with the CD/DVD drive? The drivers should be on that disk. If you don't what is the brand name/make of the drive? There is one site that has loads of those:

Pioneer DVR-105.

It doesnt have a CD for drivers... it uses the generic drivers that come with windows, I believe.

Also, I have already DL'd some drivers, but they all execute in DOS, and so automatically close down. The site you listed doesnt have the 105 drivers, as its a CD/DVD R/W that came with an older Packard Bell PC.

Not sure if this will work for drivers since I have not used it for that, but it is worth a shot.
Problem: fix files that are corrupt or otherwise messed up, try this:
WinXP only though
Start > Run > sfc / scannow
This scans the system directory. If it finds any in need of repair it will ask for the WinXP CD (so have it handy), and will fix them.

Have you tried removing the hardware in the device manager and having Windows reinstall it?

A) I dont have an XP CD, heh...
B) Yes, I've tried removing them, it then picks them up again, but still doesnt work as the actual drivers themselves are corrupted.

Is there nowhere (i.e. www.microsoft.com) that you can download generic CD/DVD-ROM drivers? Im amazed that I cant find any on microsofts site, or anywhere...

Well, they dont show up on my computer, and on the device manager, they show up but it says 'blah blah could not load up the device drivers as they appear to be missing or corrupt'.

I've tried everything I can think of to get them back, but its no good.

Basically, I need to get new drivers, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Packard Hell survived long enough to include a DVD R/W on one of their PC's?

Haha, yeah, but the rest of the PC didnt survive so long...

I got me an idea... Would it not be possible for someone else to send me the Windows generic driver files over MSN? Then I could just wack em in the right destination folder and away I go...

If possible, is there anyone here who knows the precise location of said files, who would be willing to do so and help me out?
