Default Good (cheap) RAM?

Looking for some good quality, but cheap RAM. 512MB PC2700. Who's got good stuff for low prices? Is the housebrand stuff at www.ocsystem.com good? I'm not looking for Corsair XMS etc. Any suggestions? Thanx

Kingston at www.googlegear.com looks like a good deal. 512 as much as my 256 of Corsair.

I believe that the cheaper the ram, the worse quality it is.
But thats only me. Might find a good deal on pricewatch.com or newegg.com

Well if I had the dough, i'd buy 2 sticks of 512MB Corsair XMS, but being married with 2 kids, I can only afford the cheapo stuff. I was just trying to make sure I get the 'cream of the crap' or the best 'cheapo' stuff I can find.

dunno if it was a fluke but i've had pc133 kingston memory go belly-up on me on 2 seperate occasions...i've pretty much always had to go with budget ram (lol...budget life) having a wife and 2 kids myself...not to mention an ex-wife...i'm a noob and not super tech savvy, but it seems to me alot of the budget house stuff does fine under normal conditions, its over clocking and heavy gaming & apps where the big name stuff shines thru...just my 2 cents...any enlightenment is welcome though...lol

I have heard that you can (possibly) get same or slightly better performance with CAS 2.5 ram PC2700 DDR333 actually running it as PC2100 DDR266 at CAS2. Anyone know if this is true or BS? I have heard that since the FSB is at 133 and the ram is at 133 (133x2 for DDR=266) they run synchronously and it works out better. If anyone could shed light on this, it would be great. My stick I have now won't run CAS 2 at 333 (166x2), I've tried.

This is nothing but my personal opinion, but I would much rather have a 133Mhz increase in memory speed than running my memory timings .5 faster.

I don't know exactly what price range "cheapo" constitutes, but with RAM prices falling like they are you can find 256 meg sticks of Corsair XMS PC-2700 C2 for under 60 bucks.
