Default Headphone Cable

Just got a pair of headphones with a 3 metre cable. I want to reduce the size of it so I can carry it around without looking like a complete prat. Any way to shorten it?

a slap on the left arse cheek to who ever sais hide it under your shirt.

What are you using it for? If its for DJing or like a home theatre/computer you could just put it on a spool and wind it up to how ever long you need it. As for actually shortening it... Good friggin luck the wires in headphones are super thin and burn if you try to solder them. I got some AKG 240 Studio Headphones and they allow me to buy or have someone make me cables to length. (Im thinking of getting a coiled one, like the way telephone cords are...)

Same experience here -- the super-fine wires are nearly impossible to work with. Just stripping the wires is likely to break half of them.

Three meters? Heck, that's not just under your shirt, that's down one pantleg and up the other.

You can buy a replacement plug at radio shack, but its a pain in the ass since the wires arent seperated, just some sort of resin coat thats a pain in the ass to burn off enough to solder. Also, there are 3 wires, it takes a bit of futzing to figure which go where especially since you can get a good connection with the damn coating. If your not real good at soldering/dont wanna risk F'n up your headphones, i'd suggest just getting one of these.

I've worked with headphone cable before and I know it is far from easy. Had a decent pair of headphones, to replace would have cost 30 quid. A soldering iron cost around 10. I got a soldering iron, worked the first time but it happened again and it just fudged up.

This cable is thicker than the usual cable, theres one from each ear piece boing all the way down to the plug, they're stuck together, each cable is around 3mm thick. Makes me think theres a different setup on this, obviously don't want to start stripping it being unsure!

I'd still like to know what you are intending to use these for. Also can you name a brand and model number?

EDIT: Idea... Maybe you could lose the entire cable and just solder a new thicker cable/wire from the original solder points on phones themselves...

I'm using them to wear with my mp3 player where ever I go, school, work, on the bus, walking, etc.

Model is Sony MDR-V300

Good idea with replacing the cable, wonder how hard it will be to take apart the ear pieces though.

On a side note here is the best headphone website: http://www.headphone.com/layout.php
You might be able to get in touch with them and ask some more "in depth" questions.

How about a zip-tie or twist tie to hold a portion of the cord bunched up?
I know it is the ghetto-fab way of going about it but it is cheap and easy.

thats what I have on it at the moment! but because it's such a thick cable the portion is super sized so to speak

Wonder if this is the kind of thing I need?

UPDATE:

Well, I got a set of these babies here. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

It was a simple and cutting the cables, stripping them and soldering them to the correct places. Soldering was a bit tricky but it worked out, I reinfoced it with some fishing line because form experience solder works it's way loose messing up sound.

Worked out nicely
