Default PSU Problem ... need help

So yesterday morning I went to power up my PC and all the fans and drives spun up and then it shut down. I tryed it a few times and got the same result. I can't even get to the BIOS screen. My guess is that my PSU kicked out on me. I guess I shouldnt be surprised as its just a cheap 300w PSU that came with my case. I just wanted to know

a) anybody seen this before and know if it is for sure the PSU and if the problem could damage any other of my hardware and

b) if it is, where can i get a good PSU for cheap

Thanx.

I had the same problem. However, a row of transistors/resistors on my Epox mobo had exploded, haha. Not sure why or how this happened, but I had the exact same symptoms.

However, it could be your PSU. I'm not sure, really. One easy way to tell is borrow a PSU from a friend. This is one reason you should do like I do, and have some spare PC parts laying around from crappy, old rigs. I have three extra PSUs for random testing. Just some advice.

Before jumping off and thinking its a PSU switch it out with a nother one and see what happens. It could be something else.

I checked all the electronic components on my board and they are fine. I'm pretty sure its the psu as i have ben pretty demanding running a powerful system of a cheap 300w PSU. Plus in the last few weeks it reset on me once or twice which are warning signs.

I have plenty of spare parts around just no PSUs . Im trying to get a hold of my friends but i cant get in touch.

before spending money on anything, you need to borrow a psu from someone, anyone, or buy one from radioshack and keep the receipt so you can take it back after using it as a test part, once you determing...FOR SURE...that it is, in fact, your PSU, THEN spend money on a new one (antec, enermax, enlight, ultra, etc)...

getting a "psu for cheap" will put you right back in this forum, having the same problem in the future...psu is the most stressed component, and pc will only be as good as its weakest part....

That's some good advice, fu3lman.

This is exactly what im trying to do . Im trying to get a spare PSU from my friends I know at least one should have a spare power supply.

If it is the power supply I wasn't planning on getting another cheap one. I was asking if any of you knew of any good deals on a good power supply (antec , enermax etc...)

if the system isnt what you would consider "ultra l33t", then the Enlight 420 watter should be on your short list, i been using one for well over 2 years now without fail on a pretty serious system, and to everyone i recommended it to, they have had nothing but good things to say about it as well, stay tuned and ill try and find you a link to it, they prolly go for around $30-$40

closest i could find was a thermaltake equivelant, probably the same exact parts tbh, has a decent 18A +12v, and is less than 40 bones....

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...153-006&depa=1

after looking at this pic very carefully, i am almost positive that it is the exact same as the enlight, all the way down to the power switch, same exact amperages and everything, just a different label

I love my Silverstone Zeus, but it was pricey. Although with multi rails, 650 watts and tons of connectors and adaptors... I'll probably be using it a very, very long time.

I just installed a new PSU that my friend lent me. My system works fine. I guess I was right. My old PSU just suddenly decided to die. Thanks for the tip on the PSU fu3lman. I'll look into it.
