Default eMachines Memory Type

I'm trying to hook my sister's computer up with more memory, but not sure the pin that it is, and want to know to be sure. I checked on the 'net and couldn't figure it out, and I don't feel like dealing with tech support.

The PC is an eMachines W2247; anyone know what memory works with that rig?

Thanks.

Actually NO, Not any speed will be fine.

Here is a link I found that I googled within 30 seconds.

http://http://www.satech.com/memory-...47-memory.html

Looks like it takes PC2100 memory.

Whatever your prcessor's FSB is determines what memory you have. I mean, YOu cna go overboard and get PC3500 for a PC2100 machine and you won't get any benefits.

I found that link, too. What I really need to know is how many pin is it?

How many pin is it? 168, 184, or 240?

If you know the make, model go to http://www.crucial.com . They'll tell you all you need to know. I usually go to NewEgg afterwards but you can buy it from Crucial and know it the best quality. It may not be the fastest but the reliability is great.

Update
Crucial shows it as 184 pin PC2100 pt.# CT408798. This isn't their standard PC2100 pt.#. Now I don't know about emachines but some Gateway computers will only work with certain memory chips and I have a feeling your sisters emachine is the same. They do this so they can make more money buy selling you the upgrade. I would buy this memory from Crucial. 256mb is $32.99 and 512 is $60.99 with free 3-5 day shipping

Thanks for your help, Slaymate. So you think that the Crucial stick(s) will work, even if eMachines is proprietary?

Nevermind. After checking Crucial's Web site, I see that it has a 'compatibility guarantee'.

Thanks for everything, Slaymate. Reppage!

your computers system clock and FSB/DRAM ratio determines what kind of memory you can use, not your processors fsb...at least for the sake of an emachine, theres absolutely no reason to bring it up if you know your system clock is 133 and have a cpu fsb of 266 and a FSB/DRAM ratio of 1:1, then you can use just about any DDR(1) memory available, and i recommend going a step up from pc2100 and my reasons are stated below...

that system can use any speed of standard DDR memory, and i would reccomend using something around pc2700 if you dont want to worry about flakyness due to the weak power mosfets and regulators in oem emachine mobos, pc2700 running at stock voltage and 266mhz is more stable than pc2100 running at stock voltage and 266mhz...even if pc2100 is rated for that, and im right here if anyone wants to argue about that...

the price differences are negligible, and the difference could be the diff between non-stop troubleshooting, and a grateful sister who has a super-techie for a brother

No problem Reppage And on that Gateway machine I tried using standard PC2100 and PC2700 as Fu3lman post suggested. On 90% of the computers out there he's exactly right. But not all of them. That crucial memory "Will" work the 1st time. You won't have to say "I'll return it for another stick".
