Default hard drive ?

Hi...I just bought a 160 gigabyte WD hard drive for 86 bucks at newegg.com. this hard drive only has 2MB of cache.....will this greatly decrease the speed of the hard drive.....and will this cause load times to be extremely slow?

keep in mind. this is the only hard drive in the system

thanks

system stats are as follows

chaintech PCI express board(nforce 4 board i cant remember the make and model)

Athlon 64 3200+ winchestor

512 MB of ddr400 mushkin blue line

Default maybe

compared to what? a raptor will smoke it, but a exact same drive w 8 MB cache versus 2MB you probably wont notice on your system unless your doing drive intensive operations

Yeh to edit your 2nd post click on the EDIT button and put the new info there instead.

I tend to steer clear of the 2MB cache hard drives even for system building for customers. I prefer to be safe in the knowledge that theres a nice chunk of resources there for any intensive programs such as games, decoding, encoding, compression, etc...

For an overall stability/performer go for the Barracudas from Seagate with 8mb Cache.

Will the 2 MB of cache slow down the speed of things such as, load times, program installation, and gaming. compared to the 8 mb of cache

Yes it will, and at that it really depends on the program and your system ram and cpu/Gpu etc.

this is true, it will, but prob not enough to make a huge difference... i went from a 2mb hdd up to a raptor so i cant say i really have any way to judge the 2 vs 8mb at the same rpm, i wouldnt think its that huge a diff
