Default Bios help

Ok, I got my new bios chip in the mail today and i remember reading that when putting it back in the board i should make sure that the battery was out. I just wanted to make sure if that was what i wanted to do and if there was anything else?

Unplug the power cord from the PSU. Touch the frame of your case before you touch the chip and try not to rub ballons in your hair to make them stick on walls while you are handling it.

I took the power cord out of the psu and took the battery out of the mobo and then put the bios chip in. I made sure everything was hooked up correctly and tried to start the computer.
Nothing, it just turned the fans on. I don't understand why this is happening.

Try to clear it with the new CMOS, then replace the jumper and try to boot again.

I tried that. Here is exactly what i did.

Turn the computer off,
Turn PSU off,
unplug power cord,
move cmos jumper to clear 2-3 position for 10 secs,
move cmos back to 1-2 position,
plug in power cord,
turn on psu,
turn on computer,

Only the fans turned on.

So then i repeated the process with a new hard drive, and still the same result.

I am going to head to target pretty soon and get a new battery and try that.

I don't understand why a new battery would be needed to make it post.

Have you tried starting up with no cards installed? I had a computer that did that and it turned out to be the video card.

I have no idea if the EPROM is programed. I am going to try to swap the video cards a little later on today.

Yeah, there are three corners that are 90 degree and then theres one that has a slant on it, so it only goes in one way cause the socket that the chip goes in has three corners at 90 degree and then one with that slant.

I also tried starting it without anything besides the hard drives plug in, and still nothing not even a beep.
