| He guys I've been having a problem for the last couple of days trying to reinstall Windows XP because of two different stop errors that I've gotten. the first stop error was BAD_POOL_CALLER which is stop error: **** Stop 0x000000c2 ( 0x00000007, 0x00000CD4, 0x00000000, 0x81BA28A0 ). The second stop error I recieved was PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA which is stop error: *** Stop 0x00000050 ( 0xFFFFFFFC, 0x00000000, 0x805372F3, 0x00000000 ). I was doing a clean install for windows when this happed. I was reinstalling windows because I thought I had gotten some weird virus because prior to reinstalling, everytime I tried to access the internet through either IE or Firefox my system would all of a sudden reboot. At first I thought it was the CPU overheating but when I checked the temps they were between 26-30 degrees celsius. So clearly heat was not the problem. Then I tested my PSU and it was also working fine so I thought it was a virus that was causing it so that's when I decided to reinstall windows. This virus was not the blaster virus if any of you might be thinking that because the computer would litterally run for hours just fine as long as I didn't open IE or Firefox, because as soon as I did not even 15 seconds later and the machine would reboot. As soon as I got these errors I used my brother's computer to do some research to find out what the erros I was getting on the BSOD meant. So after searching for a bit I found out that their both related to memory. Since this was the case I borrowed a stick of pc 2700 from my cousin, but the machine still got these errors even after I tried new memory in it. I started to get a litte paranoid and decided to remove the graphics card just in case to protect it because I didn't know what was causing the problem so now I'm using the onboard graphics while diagnosing the machine. I tested the graphics card in another machine to and it worked so that isn' t the problem. I also tested the harddrive on another machine and it worked fine and I was able to install windows on it. I switched the ribbon cables to see if that was causing the problem on the malfunctioning system and nothing changed so the cables were fine. I even reseated the processor and applied a new coating of artic silver and still nothing. I'm really worried because I'm afraid it's either the motherboard which I kinda don't think it is because the machine post's fine and I don't get any bios beep code errors or there could be something wrong with the northbride since it controlls how the CPU and memory communicate. Since the errors I recieved speak of memory issues it warned on the microsoft website that it could either be the actual ram or there could possibly be something wrong with the CPU's L1 and L2 cache. At this point I've pretty much done everything I could possibly think of and I personally think it's either the Northbridge is screwed up on the MOBO or the CPU's L1 and L2 cache fudged up. If you guys know of anything else I can do please let me know because it's going to be very hard for me to find a replacement MOBO if the MOBO is messed up. I say it would be hard to find a replacement because I would need another Flex atx board because this is coming out of an SB51g Shuttle case and the CPU I have is an old 2.53ghz P4 revision B chip that will run on either a 400 or 533 FSB and I perferably would much rather have a board that is 533 FSB. On the other hand if the CPU is what's messed up than I think it would be easier to find the same CPU off of ebay or some where else on the net ( I hope). I tried looking for the board already and no luck. any help you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated thanks guys and you're my last hope. | ||

well since pc 2100 is usally used with 400fsb and pc2700 is usally used with 533fsb, dont really see your point there. should be no compatability issues with pc2700. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| well feral is right. usually with those stop codes. especially in windows setup. that its pointing towards bad memory. do you have any other KG memory? and how many sticks do you have? heres a great site for stop codes: http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm | ||

| Feral is correct in his post and we do need to know more about both what components you have, particulary the RAM, and what BIOS settings you are running on. In addition, you can order replacememnt components for XPC systems directly from Shuttle, just do a search for Shuttle USA and check their product line of accessories and upgrades for the XPC systems. EDIT: And both PC2100 and PC2700 are correct for this system, looked it up Of course the system BIOS settings do have to be correct for the memory type. | When I mentioned 400 or 533 I was talking about the motherboard's FSB. The memory I'm using is fine I've tested it in other systems and no problems with it there. I know the memory I'm using is for my motherboard because the chipstet on my MOBO is an intel 845GE and it accepts pc1600, pc2100, and pc2700. As for the settings in the bios everything is set at the default factory settings. the memory is set to auto so it can automatically detect what speed to run it at. I am just simply trying to find out if any of you have ever had this type of problem and if so how did you correct it. Forget about the physical ram there is nothing wrong with it I am mainly concerned about how to find out whether it is my cpu or the MOBO that is screwed up. Keep in mind that I have no OS currently installed and I can't install one because the damn computer keeps restarting so I can't use any utilities or programs that require an OS to test it. Do you guys now of anything that I can run through dos to test the motherboard or the cpu. I can't really test the Cpu by powering it up in another machine seeing as how I don't have an extra board that accepts a P4 2.53ghz revision B chip. Do guys think I should just go ahead and buy a new MOBO and cpu or should I keep trying to find out what's wrong or do you guys think that it's pretty obvious that it's either the cpu or the motherboard. | ||

| OK, after re-reading your post, ( it's long, you put out some effort there, and it's just after lunch ), I am not terribly sure what your problem is. I still would be suspicious of the RAM, just because I have seen so many problems related to RAM in the past, but you have the same issue with completely different RAM modules. There is a DOS based diagnostic application that will run a system check of your memory. I do not know the name of it, but someone posted within the last week about it. It may help, and may even pin-point exactly where the problem is. I am still looking into to this ![]() Last edited by lcpiper; 05-April-05 at 05:24 PM.. | ||

| I found out what the problem was! I was right the problem is the cpu's L1 and L2 cache it's messed up. I know this because after trying to see if it was still the memory by switching the stick of ram to the other slot on the board something I had failed to try but still proved to be pointless because it did not fix the problem and still caused the system to reboot. Well when I finally decided that I seriously thought it was the Cpu's L1 and L2 cache that was messed up I went into the BIOS and disabled the Cpu's L1 and L2 cache which is a pretty cool feature availble in my BIOS. Well once I did this the system gladly went into the setup procedure to install WIndows XP without a problem and Windows XP is installing right now as I'm typing. The only problem now is that I still have to get a new Cpu because not having the Cpu's L1 and L2 cache enabled is a real performance hit when it comes to using your computer. So now I'm on a mission to see if I can find another P4 revision B chip out there some where that will run on a 400 or 533mhz FSB for my Shuttle FB51 v1.3 intel 845GE chipset motherboard. Thank you everybody for all your feedback and trying to help me with my problem. | ||
