What are the best programs to test hard drives?

Oh yeah maxtor and wd drives ata

when it doesn't pick up in the bios or makes a click click click sound! or has the ID of a 20 gb but read as a 40 gb!

For WD drives they make a drive diagnosis program. Ill look for a link

yeah tried that it made an error and crashed , will not run it.

what sort of drive are we talking about here? is it your main OS drive, or a data drive?

Any SMART capable program will read any SMART capable hard drive. Any reader'll tell acceptable values.

I think Fu3l's overclockulator had a SMART reader on it asi last recall.
