Default n00b ram question

"As usual, Gigabyte hides the Advanced Chipset Features section of their BIOS, youÂ’re forced to press and hold CTRL while hitting the F1 key to bring up the Advanced Chipset Features section. "

After i read that I nearly fainted and went to this sh1tty mobo's bios and tried it, voila i have *a screen similar to this*

The problem is ive never been knowledgable about memory timings so i need to know what to configure it to for my Corsair XMS PC3200 512mb module that runs @ 333mhz cause thats the max for this mobo (stable) @ "CAS Latency 2-2-2, 1T" ...the question is.......which timing is which?
2-2-2,1T = What?

"The first number is the latency, or the amount of time it takes for your memory to respond to a command. A setting of 2 requires 2 clock cycles to respond, whereas a setting of 3 requires an additional clock cycle for a total of 3 to respond. Therefore a smaller number equates to faster performance.

The second is the RAS (Row Address Strobe) to CAS setting and the third, RAS precharge time. They are also latency settings that are derived from the way data is stored and then used in the RAM modules. The settings are calculated in the same format that the latency setting is calculated, thus a lower setting also equates to improved performance."

Hopefully this info helps, I found it here: Mushkin Ram Review

Newegg's website lists the timings for XMS 3200 512MB Platinum as 2-3-3-6-T1

So try these settings in your BIOS:

CAS Latency 2
DRAM RAS Active Time 6
DRAM RAS Precharge Time 3
DRAM RAS to CAS Delay 3

This should work pretty well.

The T1 refers to another DRAM setting which isn't listed there, I would have to go into my BIOS to hunt down the name of it.

That's fine, what mobo do you have ?

I can see it's a P4 board, but what options do you have for the DRAM Clock Speed ?

If you want to try those timings, then set your mobo for:

CAS Latency 2
DRAM RAS Active Time 6
DRAM RAS Precharge Time 2
DRAM RAS to CAS Delay 2

And see what it does.

But the timings listed in that article are not refering to the DRAM RAS Active Time, as it is always 5 or 6 on XMS RAM. And the 1T Command Rate is not one of the settings listed on that screen so if it's available for changing, it's hidden somewhere else.

Good Luck.
