I am looking at getting a new
HD. I am either looking at a 7200rpm WD internal drive OR getting a firewire 80-100gig drive. Basically, I want to dual partition it and use Linux more than WinXP and eventually phase out of XP but that's another story...what I was wondering is if you guys could tell me a little about the firewire drives, mainly:
1)will a 7200rpm have comparable seek times to an internal drive?
2)will I be able to use it as my boot drive?
My main concern is using it as my boot drive. I like to code using Linux a LOT more than Windows and being at school it's hard as crap to take my comp home over breaks. If I was able to use my Firewire drive as my boot drive then I could just bring my
HD home and boot off of it there instead of having to install my compilers and all that crap on my parents computer..not to mention it runs windows :/ Anyways, thanks in advance.
