Default sloppy floppy

Yesterday I moved my 20G fireball up a space so it's directly below my floppy drive. I needed to make room for another hard drive I put in, and wanted to leave the slot between the two HDD's open for thermal purposes. I boot up my computer and voila! Floppy drive error (40).

Not sure what this is exactly, but the light on the floppy drive is always on now. It shows up in BIOS, it shows up as working properly in device manager, but when I put a disk in and try to read it, it gives the "Please insert a disk" message.

I didn't change anything about the way the floppy is set up, it's still on the connector at the end of the floppy cable, and the cables are in the right way. I thought maybe it had something to do with the fact that it now shares it's power cable with one of the hard-drives. So I used a different power cable for the HD with the same results.

Any idea on wtf is going on here would be grand. It's a fairly new drive and I hate to dig out the warranty already.

My first guess is the floppy connector is flipped the wrong way at either the mobo or the drive.

Which ever end you had off ...... likely the drive end needs to be flipped and re-inserted.

Okay I checked the cable twice. Then I checked it again just now and realized that there is a slot on both sides of the female connector for those two ridges on top of the male connector. I though that was there to keep you from doing something this stupid! *Wonders about reducing title to newbie*

Live and learn. I did exactly the same thing some years ago. That's how I learned about that.
