If you're looking at gettin' a Sempron... MAKE SURE TO BUY A DAMN BOARD THAT SUPPORTS IT.

It is NOT an Athlon and your board will clock it VERY low, or not at all if your BIOS isn't upgradable enough to support this crap.

So far, I'm not real impressed. In fact, I groan when I get a system build on my desk that has a Sempron in the mix, especially if it's a board released before the Sempron was widely available.



On the other side, I hate the way the new 500 series Intels mount their heat-sinks... so all in all, I'm thinking maybe it's time for Microsoft to release it's freakin' chip, or Cyrix to try to put somethin' out that's actually worth buying...

DS..I know you are talking about Athlon XP Semprons here, but have any of the new 1.8GHZ Sempron 3100+ using Socket 754 (AMD64) made there into the shop yet?

I would think you will be seeing a lot of them pretty soon, they are releasing at least 2 other versions at 1.6GHZ and 2.0GHZ, and will be 90nm versions..wich should OC nicely after seeing what the Winchester have been doing lately.

The 1.8GHZ 130NM version I am using now is 99$ OEM and 124$ retail, so you know all the cheapskates will be buying them once the prices drop even more

Tell ya the truth, I wouldn't mind 'em so much if they were just a little more compatible. Change-overs are always a pain... As for the Sempron 64, I've seen one, but I wasn't the one who got to put that one together... so I haven't played with 'em personally (yet).

One of these days, I NEED to upgrade... my XP 1800+ and 4X AGP mobo just aren't the neighbor's envy anymore.. still not sure which way I'm going to go though (Intel/AMD)
