Sounds like you may need to look in the bios and make sure it supports what I think is called LBA32. LBA32 enables your computer to see drives over 130 gb.

You are correct but the problem goes away with Service Pack 1 - Service Pack 2 is not required. I had this problem with my server and just needed some updated drivers. Google for some more info man, I know this has been discussed at great length on this forum several times.......

You should also check out BIOS updates for your mobo.

ahaaa, cheers a lot. I got a couple SP2 disks laying around here (saves me downloading it ) i'll run that, if that doesn't work i'll update mobo drivers and go through BIOS settings. Will i need to reformat the hard drive once i get this thing working if the SP2 doesn't solve it?

thanks for the help guys, much appreciated!

Well, since your problem was solved... I have the same sort of problem. I setup a 200gb SATA drive, and it says that it's only 128gb. In BIOS it says that it's 200gb. In the storage manager, it thinks it's 128gb. Now I'm stumped.

so you tried the Right Click My Computer> Manage> Disk Management and down at the bottom it still appears as 128? you don't have any unpartitioned space?

Well, the thing is, my BIOS sees all 200gb, but windows doesn't. Here's the other problem... I can't really get SP2... I have a not so clean copy of windows... haha... gave me an error for an invalid Key when I tried to download it.

I also did some research with Western Digital to find out what they had to say, and apparently they have this driver that you can install, but I guess you have to do it in startup, and the other bad thing is... I don't have a 3.5" floppy drive to do it... so I'm F'ed!

This is an easy fix - stop being a cheap, software stealling, low life, thiefving mofo and buy a copy of Windows XP. Surely you have been using it long enough to know that you either like it or dislike it. If you dislike it try Linux. They like to be stolen from, in fact they encourage it as the softwares free anways.

Second of all SP2 does not fix this problem, SP1 did. If you have updated to SP1 and this problem still resolves then SP2 isnt going to help you anyways.

Well... I appreciate the advice, but the name calling was kinda lame.. and plus it's only temporary, I just built my computer not too long ago, and I'm getting my own copy of WindowsXP. I snagged my mom's for the time being. No biggy, it's in the family right? Or is that stealing too?

If it's installed on her computer too, then yes, it's stealing. Read the EULA.

Yes, as Pimp Joose has pointed out this is stealing. Doesnt matter where it comes from its the same as downloading and cracking it off the internet. Stealing is stealing..........there are soooo many freeware alternatives out there.

My problem is not with your stealing of software, its with the fact you feel fine in advertising it and maybe even gloating about it. When you bring your bad habits out in public you should expect retort - I would say by the way you worded it thats what you were looking for. I was merely giving you what you wanted - you should be thanking me.

OF COURSE!!! WTF dude, do you think M$ is that st00pid? For businesses they have what's called 'Select licesing' or volume licensing. Basically a company buys XP/Office/Server licenses by the hundreds or thousands, and are provided a CD key that allows them to use up to the number of licensed products they've bought.

This is how I do it aswell. Thats how XP Corporate comes into the equation. XP Pro without the need to activate. Simply type in your license code and your good to go. I have more than a few licenses for XP Pro so I can pretty much install away without issues. I have given a few out to friends and family - buying them was a tax write off.

Also if your wanting a cheap copy of XP go to www.pricewatch.com and pick up an OEM COA (certificate of authenticity). You then use the code on the sticker to validate and activate your copy of XP. You save big money but dont get the CDs or manuals. XP Home goes for about $45 and Pro is about $90ish.

My cousin has the same thing going - Microsoft gave each person in his class a key to unlock all MS products. Everything from Office to Server 2003.........very handy compared to the old way they were doing things. You used to have to "check out" a keycode for a product and return it when done - that was a pain.
