Default My CC Melted?

Well I am working on finishing my new case and in it I have four 4" , four 12' and some misc... lights.
Well today I noticed a weird smell but could not pin down where it was coming from. Then later in the day the smell got worse and I could smell plastic burning I looked again and found that one on my 4" CC's (at the bottom of my case) was black and melted at the one end near the base of the light. Now I turned off and took the light out of the case what I want to know is it just a crappy light or a bad inverter? Will this still happen (ie melting) even though I turn the lights off via the switch they came with or is there still a risk?

sounds like a bad inverter. i remember hearing that some inverters get extremely hot. what brand cc is it and where did you buy it?

Well my other light attatched to that same inverted did not melt but I didn't leave it on to see if it would. I bought all my light from svc.com and I think these lights (red ones) are the svc brand. and the other 4' are logisys and the 12' I am not sure. So would it help to replace all the inverters just to be safe? Will keeping them in the off postion when I am not home prevent them from overheating again?

I'd return it for a refund check (SVC Refunds return shipping) and get one of the excellent
PC Toys CCFL's at Cable Crazy for $5.25. Better build quality/less heat/etc.

Is that http://www.cablecrazy.com/? Well I would return it but I bought the lights in Sep. (just got around to installing them) and I don't have the boxes anymore. I guess I can buy all new lights, do LED lights have the same problem as the CC? Like the little sinle laser LED light?

You would need many LED lights (12+) to replace a single CCFL light. The light isn't as dispersed either, so if you want that soft evenly dispersed light such as what a CCFL gives you then LED's wouldn't be a very good choice. LED's put of so little heat you wont be able to feel it. Make sure to use resistors that are appropriate for the LED though. Use OHMS law to figure out the proper resistor you will need. Remember ohms law is POWER SOURCE VOLTAGE - LED VOLTAGE / AMP of LED. So for example we have a 12v power source and a 2v LED @ 20mAh we will do the following equation. 12-2 = 10. 10/0.02 = 500ohm resistor. Remember 1000mAh is 1amp.

Ok, That is a bit over my head and I know LEDs give off not as good a light and is spotty. I have 4 lasr LEDs that run out the bottom of my case and light up my legs underneath they just use a standard molex plug to work. I am not completely off CC IF I can be usre that when they are not in use (ie yurned off via off switch) that they will not melt down. Kind of makes me uneasy to leave them attached (to my sys power) if they can still melt when off and I am not home.

Thats odd. When you turn the Switch off to the inverter they shouldn't melt. 12V + line is cut. only thing attached is the 12 - ground. Shouldn't mess up when its turned off unless its wired incorrectly. Even when on it shouldn't fry. I've had only 1 out of 4 inverters fry on me. My CCFL's I bought indivdually back when they first came out, now I just use 2 inverters.

Yeah that didn't happen they were on when it fried. I want to keep my lights I just want to make sure that if I turn it "off" when I am out it still won't melt. Yeah this is the first time I have had any light melt. Funny thing is I looked inside the inverter and it did not look melted or anything.
