Default Hard Drive Troubles

I've had an old Barracuda sitting on my desk for ages that does work for a 'limited time only'

But somtimes out of the blue after reboot it will change it's file system to RAW and will cause be to format it, then it will work fine for quite a while.. etc etc.

1 thing I want to know is, is there a way to revive this old thing and keep it operating? I've not heard 1 click coming from it since the day I bought it.

I once heard wiping the 0-Block (0-Track?) can help fix any File System errors but I haven't been able to find anything to do that.

Please tell me it'll live

Sometimes old HD's just give up slowly...had my first ever HD I got in 98 (Maxtor 8 gig)that finally gave up a few weeks back, wouldn't format correctly..sometimes ya just gotta let em go!

That being said, you can try the 0 sector reset, along with the long version of ScanDisk to see if you have some bad clusters.

I had the procedure written down long ago, but can't find it anymore..maybe someone still knows it here.
