Is there another program besides MBM that I can use to get voltage readings from my PSU? I just got an X-connect, and the voltages seem kinda unstable.

I might take a multimeter to it as well.

Multimeters offer the most accurate readings, but the next best software alternative is Winbond HW Doctor.
You can find it either on the software CD that came with the board, or by your Winbond chip code via Sandra.

Thanks, I wanna use the software first, so I can see my system under load.

On another note, how come when I run prime95 torture test with "Large In-place FFT's" I can hear a small buzzing noise when my CPU is under load. Like, with each different FFT, it's a different pitch buzz.

I didn't know you could HEAR your cpu do work. Something's wrong with my system lol.

It could be the power supply . I'm not saying its bad or anything, but just because your psu is the switching type, something could be picking it up and amplifing the frequncy....

hmm have u thought it could be ur fans or dust?

I think your board has an ITE monitor chip, the only thing that supports it is BIOS and a
third party program that has a choice of HW monitor chips such as Motherboard Monitor.

Download MBM and select your ITE IT8705/12 chip in the options menu.

Beware it's even more inaccurate than the Winbond chips so take
readings from it with a grain of salt. Hell, the whole salt shaker.

My system is completely dust free. My other PSU gave me the buzzing noise too. Maybe it's something to do with my TMD fan, who knows. It's still all stable.

I just am kinda disappointed in the lack of juice this PSU pushes, but then again, MBM isn't the most accurate, and my ITE chip isn't the best as well. When I get my new video card, I hope this PSU has enough power to push that, and some more fans as well. I'm sure it will though.

Next PSU I'm getting will be one with adjustable pots. This power supply does bling though.

I'm going to take this PSU to school, with a Fluke, and get to testing it.

You ever look at what the bios reads?

I have gotten attatched to Speed Fan lately since I went socket 754 (Google Search for it)

I haven't even checked my bios, but see, I want voltages under load. Idle voltages don't mean too much. I'll check it out for knowledge. I'll google that program too, thanks.

What should I look for when I put a multimeter to this PSU? Just a stable voltage or what? Should I measure current?

Plug your multimeter into a molex and boot...run your rig as usual and watch the meter

The reason for checking your voltages in the Bios, is to compare them to what software reads...if you show 1.6v CPU at idle in the Bios, but read 1.4v using software, you know that you are probably fine....just to make my point a bit more clear

Yes, a meter is best, once you know what it actually reads, then you can "Adjust" what the software says by noting the differences (Write it down!)

Question X-connect question

This one is for Turbo and anyone else who has the X-connect PS....

DOES your X-connect have a distinct burning smell coming out of the rear of the PS, yet still remains stable and seems to stay in good working order? BA, I need to read your article again and see it you also had this problem.... can't for the life of me say this is a great product when the thing smells like its burning. Its not a smell I am liking in my room at the moment.

If you need a list of the parts to see if it being overloaded, I can provide that too.

Spike;

I have to say, after a quick whiff, my Ultra X-Connect PSU has the distinct smell of rosin core solder.
Performance and voltages are rock solid so I'm not going to worry, nothing bad happens on my B-Day.

Probably fresh parts getting burned in. If not...3 year warranty.

Yeah, actually mine does smell like it's burning. I thought it was the "new psu" smell. I don't think it's anything bad though.

Thanks for the tip Zennz! I'll do that ASAP, and I will write down my bios voltages too.

Spike, how are your voltages?

Thumbs up

The AMD 64 3200+ system with the X-connect are ok, not perfect, but not to bad. I just hope she keeps giving me clean pure power for years, if it don't, I I got an angry letter to write, and a long warranty RMA.

Well, I am glad mine is not the only one doing it, thats kinda gives me a warm feeling.

That's me smacking you're head with a already-been-used Trojan warm sensations condom.

Sorry I couldn't resist.

Yes, one of the 3 X-Connects I've tested had a real strong "hot electronics" smell. It faded significantly after about a week of constant use. Another one had a slight odor and the 3rd didn't have the odor at all. Don't know what the difference is.

Ya BA, I just wanted to make sure that nothing was going wrong...or if I was somehow overloading a 500 watt beast.

Something tells me that there is something not right though...those heatsinks are small for a 500 watt. O well, I guess I just got a unlucky smelly PS. BA, I do hope you are right about it going away after a week, cause it is new still.
