Default Lab Problems

I was recently hired as the lab tech for a small computer lab at my university. I didn't realize how junked up some of the computers were until I had to install some software on every computer in the lab. I ran into a few problems with some of them, and I was hoping somebody here could help me. One of the computers would not start up at all, so naturally I suspected the power supply. I went and pulled a used one from storage, replaced it, and it worked fine. Now I come in the day after and it will not power up again. Could the power supply have just gone out again?? Pure coincidence? It was used....

Another problem I'm having is that one of the computers running Windows ME thinks that its floppy drive is a 5 1/4 floppy drive, when it in fact is not. What's the easiest way to remedy this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Alright that covers about all i know then. Could be something else PSU's does it die after a reboot or a long uptime or just when you show up in the morning.

The computers stay on 24/7. I walked in one day and the computer was dead. I replaced the power supply, turned it on, and left it on. I walked in the very next day and it was dead again.

then its time to junk it! if it keeps dying like that, then yah !

and for the floppy drive, change the settings in the computer bios, if not the del key then the f2 key

Well I was going to go check the BIOS after having read your post, but whoever was the lab tech before me decided to put a password on the system BIOS. So now I've got to crack the thing open and take out the battery. And I don't feel like doing that today. So I guess I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.
